New addition to my mill tooling
#1
I have to share my newest addition to the mill tooling. I purchased an ER32 collet and wrench from Glacern and a set of collets from CNCtoolingstore on e-bay. It's a Techniks brand 18 piece set which seems to be of excellant quality. Here is the required picture.Smile

Nice addition. You can get the hex and square collet blocks to suite the ER collets now. Or you could make them like doubleboost did (I bought mine).

The Glacern stuff looks to be very nice and I toyed with the idea of buying one of their milling vises. The shipping was the killer. Their customer service is second to none based upon my experience.

I have there 5" vise and keyless chuck. So far all of the Glacern tools have been excellant and fit and finish beautiful. I am lucky as the shipping is only from southern CA to Oregon so not too expensive.

When using the R8 collets with a 1/2" endmill the endmill was slipping and moving into the work piece. The ER collet locks the end mill very solid and I like the ease of tool changes.

Dan,

what was the ballpark price on the collet set??

I got a South Bend collet holder and set for my birthday, its a very nice set, but its an odd collet (TA, I believe), so replacement collets availability is questionable.

Jack,

The ER32-R8 chuck was $79 on a Black Friday special. I got the collet set off e-bay. It was highly recommended and $50 less than Glacern at $200.

If your SB collets are of recent vintage, they may well be OZ25 (DIN 6388). Work your way through the last half of this thread:
