Drill Press Vise Modification
#11
In this vein, I also did the mill vises, on the Franken-Mill and the Jet JVM-836. The holes are threaded to take 3/8-16" hardware. Its shown using a grinding wheel to show how it works. I've used it a few times and it works fine.

Jack,

When or if you have to bore out a grinding wheel I strongly suggest you put some thick paper (similar to the center blotter) under the wheel and under those clamps. If you don't you risk cracking the wheel. I hope you give that grinding wheel a ring test before mounting it on the grinder, then let it run for at least one minute at full speed before using it.

Ken,

the grinding wheel is just a prop, I never photographed the actual part being made. That wheel came with a Milwaukee bench grinder, that I bought used, I have no plans of ever using it, except as a paperweight. I was the only round thing I had in the shop to use as a prop.

Jack,

Another great modification. Thumbsup

I can see that being real useful for boring.

How do you prevent chips and debris from filling the holes when not in use? Do you leave the pins in all the time?

The holes are threaded , according to the first pic, so holes maybe filled with short studs?

Good question.

usually 3/8"-16 x 1/2" setscrews, if I forget, a quick blast with an air hose and they are clean.
