Small Tools - Arbalest - 09-30-2012 Not really a project as such, just some small tools I've managed to complete over the past couple of weeks. Pleased to finally finish the Knurling Tool as I started it about a year ago! RE: Small Tools - doubleboost - 09-30-2012 They look very well made Great picture as well Pictures are always welcome John RE: Small Tools - Arbalest - 09-30-2012 Thanks John. Yeah, decent pictures are a must RE: Small Tools - Wawoodman - 09-30-2012 Very nice work, indeed. Beautiful finish on the tools. Could we have some details on the angles on the tangential tool? Also on the sharpening fixture, if you've made one of those as well? RE: Small Tools - dallen - 09-30-2012 the tangential bit holder, you make that from a drawing or of your own design? that one is one of the easiest to understand how its made that I've seen. RE: Small Tools - Arbalest - 09-30-2012 The Tangential Tool holder is my own design but as long as you tip the tool bit 12 degrees forward and 12 to the left it will cut fine. More pics of it here: http://www.modelenginemaker.com/index.php/topic,760.0/topicseen.html This is the sharpening jig. I made and use the Silver one. The black one came with a Toolholder I bought but can't say I like it much. Jig angle is 30 degrees. RE: Small Tools - Arbalest - 09-30-2012 Anticipating the next question Here's a shot showing the clamp arrangement. It's a Sandblasted finish if you were wondering! RE: Small Tools - sasquatch - 09-30-2012 Great looking workmanship,,, Thanks for posting this. RE: Small Tools - EdK - 09-30-2012 Beautifully made tools. Thanks for posting them. I bought one of those tangential tool holders for my mini-lathe and never did like how it performed. What kind of steel did you use for the tangential tool holder and is that painted or is that the raw sandblasted finish? Thanks, Ed RE: Small Tools - Arbalest - 09-30-2012 Hi Ed, Don't know what the steel is, it came from the scrap bin (weights from a gym machine!) Finish is straight from the sandblaster with some Renwax applied to stop it rusting. |
