Today I received something I had found on eBay. Not something I was actively looking for, as I don't need it, but when I saw what it was and the Buy It Now price of $50 with free shipping I clicked.

This is a spanking new, still current product with Walter Valenite. It's a 1-1/4" De-Vibe bar, DBB-125CD. It's a steel body with carbide slugs inside loaded under spring pressure. It needs a "head" to be usable, those run new for $265 so I'll wait for one to show up on eBay for cheap. The body you see lists for $600 as is.
Edit: Awww, nevermind. I just found a slightly used head for $43.25 shipped. It's one no longer made, the HBN-101 type 2 which is the "damped" version. That means in addition to the bar being damped, the head adds to that. It takes TNMG43x size inserts, has 90º lead angle for getting true flat-bottomed shoulders.
All told, to get a De-Vibe bar complete for under $100 is UNREAL! I'm stoked, just need to find a use for it before I sell it for triple my investment.

Ed, my CA/400 size tool holder blocks for my QCTP can take up to 1-1/2" bars and I have one. It's a Valenite A32W-DCLNR4 for CNMG43x inserts. I also have a 1-1/4" internal grooving bar that takes inserts from .118" (3mm) up to .163" (4.14mm) wide. Though the minimum bore it can get into is 1.97", the Valenite VG117 R 20 30 bar can groove up to .236" (6mm ) deep. Yeah, big stuff compared to many home shops but its a 16x40 lathe and the tooling was CHEAP. No matter what tooling I have, you know the chapter of Murphy's Law, the job that just fell in the door needs that one tool I don't have.

Today I received one of the THREE different heads I'd bought for the boring bar. This one, an HBN-120, would likely get the most use as it the most "universal" in that it has a -5º lead angle and the CNMG43x (CNMG1204xx) inserts for it are plentiful. I've also got the HBN-101 (2) damped head coming with a 0º lead angle for TNMG43x (TNMG2204xx) inserts which would be for heavy roughing, and a used HBN-145 that holds VNMG33x (VNMG1604xx) inserts at an angle which gives 27.5º on each side, good for finishing cuts and profiling.

I added up the costs of the boring bar and heads (including shipping) as follows:
Boring bar, DBB-125-CD, $50.00, list $600.00
CNMG head, HBN-120, $85.00, list $265.00
TNMG head, HBN-101, $43.25, list $450.00 (estimated)
VNMG head HBN-145, $10.00, list $337.00
So, I have a dilemma. With a total of $188.25 in it and a retail value of $1652, should I sell it for $1000 or sit on it? I've used my 1" steel S16T-MCLNR4 boring bar a couple of times, but have never used the 1-1/2" S24V-DCLNR4 that sits in my lathe tooling box. I just don't know if I'd ever use this 1-1/4" bar, but if I did need it I would never be able to justify buying a new setup like this and could never get such a deal. OTOH, if I had $1000 in hand, I could buy new hard jaws for my Walter dividing head's Rohm 3-Jaw chuck ($367) and have plenty of change left over for other things.
Thoughts?

Well if you don't need it, I'd suggest selling it. Especially if you have current needs that are going unmet due to a lack of coin.
EDIT: I seriously considered whether I need to bore anything whilst I'm there and I cannot think of anything - so you're good to sell

Got the "damped" head for the boring bar in today. Aside from some scuffs on the bottom of it, doesn't really look used. It takes a TNMG33x insert, I thought it was the larger size.

You can see in the end shot how they drilled holes, filled them with a couple of carbide slugs and a spring, them sealed with a pressed-in steel plug. It helps further damp vibration that causes chatter. This is probably the longest head they made for it. With this one on it the total length is a hair over 20", and you can use at least 12" hanging out. If I need to, I wouldn't hesitate to hang it out 16" and see what it would do.
