msi-viking - has anyone purchased from them? - Mayhem - 08-26-2012 Since my cheap set of digital callipers have gone to the big machine shop in the sky and given that I will be in the US next month, I have decided to invest in some quality ones. I have been looking at the Mitutoyo 500-196-20 and msi-viking have the lowest prices. Given the work I do, I don't think I need coolant proof ones, or even need carbide faces. I was just curious as to whether anyone has purchased from them at all? RE: msi-viking - has anyone purchased from them? - PixMan - 08-26-2012 That's a good tool. I have one that I bought as a replacement to the 12 year old one I gave to my dad about 6 year ago. My "new" one is now in worse (cosmetic) condition than the one I gave him. And I gave it to him because the film covering the inductive (??) scale bits had started peeling up after such rough use in oily coolant environments. The tools are virtually indestructible. I have never bought from msi-viking and had never heard of them. Here's one from the people I've been buying some tools from, General Tool of Attleboro MA. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Digital-Caliper-6-Mitutoyo-500-196-20-New-Case-/360364838124?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item53e76b0cec Compare the total cost of the tool from both sources, including shipping. If you like the General Tool option, could you have it shipped to Bill in CT? I'd happily have it sent here, but selling and shipping within Massachusetts means they'd hit you with 6.25% state sales tax. That wouldn't apply in Connecticut. RE: msi-viking - has anyone purchased from them? - Mayhem - 08-26-2012 Thanks Ken, I recall you singing their praises when I was there last year. I also recall another make that you were less than happy with (and consequently removed from my list of options). I will need to look at the shipping that msi-viking would charge, although I see they have a facility in Bristol, CT. I also saw them at Global Industrial for $1 more but with free shipping (within the continental US)! My local supplier has them listed at $435 ea RE: msi-viking - has anyone purchased from them? - EdK - 08-26-2012 Viking doesn't say whether they are in stock. They display this message once you add it to your cart: Note: Please call to verify availability due to exceptional pricing on these items. Some items may be back ordered. They want $15 to ship it UPS ground to Minnesota. A bit steep I think. Enco has them for $118 with free shipping so the Global Industrial price is real good. Ed RE: msi-viking - has anyone purchased from them? - Mayhem - 08-26-2012 I hadn't noticed that Ed. I hadn't clicked on checkout yet to calculate shipping, as I generally have to contact vendors to ensure that they ship to a US address, which is (most often) a hotel. As you can imagine, some coordination is required. To date, I have only had one item show up after I had checked out. This was the fault of the supplier, as they hadn't noticed that item would ship form elsewhere in the US. However, to their credit, they sent it to my home address and paid for the shipping charges (which were more than the item). I would have settled for a refund but they were happy to ship. Looks like Global will get the sale at $109.95 all up. |
