RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - TomG - 05-13-2015 My hardware supply is officially out of control and has been for some time. It started out is its original boxes somewhat organized by size in a punch card file cabinet, but after years of use, many of the boxes have broken open and dumped their contents in the bottom of the drawer to be mixed together. I finally had enough and picked up about 300 - 3" x 3" x 2" polyethylene cups form the Surplus Shed a while back and started sorting. So far I've got the #4's, #6's and #8's sorted out to the point where I can see what's missing and re-stock. The #10's are the worst, so that will be another day, but I'm finally getting a handle on it. If you have the need and a cabinet that will hold them, the cups are still available. They are currently 25 cents ea, but the Shed has 1/2 off sales several times a year, so it might be worth waiting for it. Tom RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - EdK - 05-13-2015 Thanks for that Tom. I just ordered 144 of the cups. I don't have the cabinets you have to put them in but it's a start at organizing my hardware. Especially the smaller stuff. Ed RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - TomG - 05-13-2015 I think they will work out well. It will be nice to be able to remove the cup with the size fastener I need and take it to the job, and to be able to see all of the fasteners at a glance. Tom RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - dallen - 05-15-2015 what I've been working on since like the first of march, my little 22 RMF DA RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - dallen - 05-21-2015 fired up the furnace today, need a backing plate for a 5C Collet Chuck that I was given, crucible is full of cut up cast iron. Will post a photo of the part tomorrow sure hope the mold filled completely [attachment=10807] RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - dallen - 05-22-2015 yesterdays casting. [attachment=10809] RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - Mayhem - 05-22-2015 Looks good Dave - now let us see what you turn that into (pun intended). RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - dallen - 05-22-2015 probably nothing, from the skim cut I did across the backside it looks like its going to have a bunch of slag inclusions in it probably from me pouring too slow. But it turned out nice and soft, looks like I was spot on with the temp and such did have one little moment with the burner but all in all I would say a good pour. To get good machineable cast iron you have to really stay on top of your game. The part is intended to be a backing plate for a 5C Collet Chuck that I was given/traded for some cad work. DA RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - RobWilson - 05-24-2015 I made this today Rob RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - PixMan - 05-24-2015 Pretty heavy duty tripod there Rob. Is that going to support anti-aircraft armament? |
