Reasonable Shipping To Canada - TOM REED - 08-08-2012

Just recieved my Vertex 6 inch vise from MACHINE SHOP DISCOUNT/QUAID MACHINERY. It's a nice quality vise 6 inch very well made and finished and it sure is big, there will be no problem with rigidity with this vise it's probably more than I needed. Anyway to the subject I almost bought a lesser vise locally because of the high shipping charges + the $50.00 brokerage charge from UPS. I took a bit of a chance and ordered the vise and specified that it be shipped FEDEX ground. Ordered on July 27 I received it yesterday and was pleasantly surprised by the bill. Shipping charges were right about $30.00 for a 70 lb shipment about 2ft x1ft x1ft, there were no other charges, delivered to my door by two FEDEX personnel with no extra charges for brokerage not even GST.
I am a happy camper. TOM

Tom
Congratulations on getting that through on Fedex. They've stung me every time. The fact that you didn't get charged GST might be a source of worry. The feds never sleep, hope there isn't another bill in the mail.
I've had good luck with the US parcel post, only once got any extra charges and that was only $8 handling fee at the border.

Hi Tom,
I have always tried to use the US Postal service when ever possible. They do have weight and size restrictions, but are much cheaper than anything else that I have tried. I have even had Puralator deliver thing to me that were sent using Postal Service.(might have been priority post?)

I will use any service except UPS whenever possible.

I did read an item on the web site for Little Machine Shop.com for shipping to Canada. It says that if you ship UPS Air them the brokerage is waived.
I have never tried this, but saw it on the site when i was considering placing an order.

Anybody have any experience with Little Machine Shop to Canada?
I have heard all good experiences with them, but heard nothing about them from this side of the border

A couple of years ago,, i ordered from Little machine shop to Canada, the order came straight through via Canada post with no problems.
Can't remember now how long it took, but it was pretty fast service.

RE: REASONABLE SHIPPING TO CANADA - TOM REED - 08-22-2012

I have ordered several items from little machine shop and have had them all shipped via USPS usually flat rate box as it is cheaper
(no usless tracking) I once had a set of fuel injectors shipped fron Portland to Calgary UPS AIR OVERNIGHT, for 45 lb parcel it cost me over $400.00 dollars + GST and I had to go to the airport and pick it up myself or I was not to get the parcel for 3 days. No brokerage as it was waived but FEDEX could have brought me the same parcel ground in 5 days for about $50.00 go figure ripped off again.

F350 it has been just about 2 weeks and no surprizes from either FEDEX or GST. if I have to pay GST 5% on $185.00 is peanuts. tom
