New Asian lathe. - bigman1 - 11-11-2017

I have been considering importing an Indian lathe to the UK. The prices seem remarkable. The range of Indian lathes is very good, you can get an old school flat belt lathe up to cnc. As to the quality i have no experience. I am looking for a medium size gap bed lathe that will pass at least 2" through the spindle, high spindle speed is not important. If anyone has any experience of importing an Indian lathe or other machine tool,i would be pleased to have the feed back. I originally considered a Chinese lathe but the prices have risen with the quality. Thanks. Ronnie.

I recommend you first look at the lathes available from Eastern Europe.  Once shipping is factored in you may very well be money ahead.

I was going to leave this alone for fear of being racsit, and having no direct experience with their machine tools, but the sub-continent is not generally known as a font of quality and excellence. Amongst people who have done business there, INDIA is an acronym for 'I'll never do it again'.
