Oiling a lathe - Cross Slide - 09-16-2017

After having my lathe for a year now, I was finally able to build a bench for it and start the process of setting it up.
On the lathe there are several oil ports. They are a brass fitting with a small ball.
How exactly do I oil with these?
Is there a special oiler required?
Thanks
Cross Slide
Trevor

Something like this: https://www.harborfreight.com/4-oz-flexible-spout-oil-can-1106.html It's the one I use. Dunno if I got lucky or what, but it fits over the ball and shoots oil in perfectly.

I use one of these Golden Rod oil cans.

Go with the Goldenrod.  Works like a charm.

I don't know if I can fine a Golderrod in Canada. In Canada we have Princess Auto, it's the Canadian version of Harbor Freight. They have some oil cans like what Vinny sent the link for.
What oil do you guys use to oil these ports?

I use Mobil Vactra #2 way oil.

You can get the Golden Rod oil cans from Amazon Canada.

Depends on what is being lubed.  I use way oil (actually chainsaw bar oil) only on the ways.  Other lube points such as the cross feed screw, lead screw support bushing, etc I use hydraulic oil like what one can find in a farm & garden store.

This is an example of what I was referring to:  https://www.ruralking.com/harvest-king-antiwear-hydraulic-oil-aw32-10w-5-gallon-pail.html

It is available in smaller quantities.

Scott Logan once recommended #2 for everything on a Logan Lathe.
