RE: Did you pay attention in school? - TomG - 04-10-2017 2-2 is nothing, times 2 is still nothing, which leaves 1. Tom RE: Did you pay attention in school? - f350ca - 04-10-2017 -3 watch your order of operations RE: Did you pay attention in school? - TomG - 04-10-2017 We suck. It look's like Arvid was the only one not sleeping in math class. :) Tom RE: Did you pay attention in school? - Pete O - 04-10-2017 My answer to the question would have to be 'no', but I've had 38 years to make up for it. And I think Arvid has it. RE: Did you pay attention in school? - Mayhem - 04-11-2017 Zero - you cannot multiply by zero and get anything but zero. RE: Did you pay attention in school? - awemawson - 04-11-2017 The order of operations is: BODMAS (Brackets, Of, Division, Multiplication, Addition, Subtraction ) And I was taught that when I was 10 or 11 if not before ! As there are no brackets changing the order, the answer can only be -1 RE: Did you pay attention in school? - Vinny - 04-11-2017 You have the D and M switched from what I learned. We learned the last 4 stood for "My Dumb Ass Sister". Either way, M & D carry the same weight, as do A & S, so both ways are correct. I came up with the same thing as Greg until I was reminded that subtraction is actually addition of negative numbers. Here's how Quora explains it: 2-2*2+1 Separate each number with corresponding sign (2)+(-2)*(2)+(1) then (2)+(-2*2)+(1) =>(2)+(-4)+(1) =>(2)+(-4+1) =>2+(-3) =>2–3 =>-1 Even tho -3 makes more sense! |
