bit of advice needed - oldskoolron - 12-06-2016 so i have a seig sx2 mini mill with the 500w brushless motor .it does wat i need it too nearly all the time but speed control is hard as it doesnt have a tacho just the dial you turn from zero to about 2500rpm .advice from you fellas is how can i work out speed for the cutting tools im useing ive tried turnin the dial half way for face cutting 6061 but to me it seems to slow but im have only 30% hearing in both ears so cant really judge by ear .am i on the right track just divideing the amout of dial turn into say 5 parts an useing each ingrement as 500 rpm an so on cheers in advance RE: bit of advice needed - pepi - 12-06-2016 You can find a hand held tach on a site one our fine member turned me onto http://www.banggood.com/search/tachometer-digital.html See if that can help you? Cheers, Greg RE: bit of advice needed - Dr Stan - 12-06-2016 This one looks like it has possibilities (not hand held): http://www.banggood.com/4-Digital-LED-Tachometer-RPM-Speed-Meter-Proximity-Switch-Sensor-NPN-p-1045439.html?rmmds=search The only drawback is the need to mount a magnet. RE: bit of advice needed - NormanV - 01-02-2017 The tachometer suggested by Stan does not need a magnet. I fitted one to my milling machine and also thought that it needed a magnet. After much messing about I was informed that it would read off just the hole that I had drilled for the magnet. It has been working fine for two years now. Edit. I have just read the description and it states that it needs a magnet (whoops!) The one that I bought looked the same but did not need a magnet. RE: bit of advice needed - wawoodman - 01-02-2017 The digital non-contact type is fine. Write down the speed at 3 or 4 places on the dial, and you should be fine. RE: bit of advice needed - EdK - 01-02-2017 I'm using the non-contact type for now and it works just fine. http://www.banggood.com/Wholesale-DT2234C-Digital-Laser-RPM-Tachometer-Non-Contact-Measurement-Tool-p-20463.html?rmmds=search Ed RE: bit of advice needed - Dr Stan - 01-06-2017 Here's a tach I mounted to my Logan using items from Automation Direct: |
