Tuff job,  medical insurance required, few reach retirement age. I would rather look for land mines with a broomstick

Safety regs!  What safety regs?  Looks like a good country not to work or live in.

It is mostly Russia and other eastern bloc countries. They are at least 50 years behind the US in terms of safety. I joke that OSHA (US Occupational Safety & Health Administration) as being "a small town in Wisconsin", but they have done a world of good in bringing safety standards up for workers across the nation in all trades. Mining in particular has had quite a bit more, with their own agency, the Mine Safety & Health Administration.

There are accidents, but the risk is greatly diminished from what you see there.
