Conquest sander thoughts please - pepi - 03-29-2016 Looking at this sander and wondering if anyone has some knowledge or an opinion of the machine. Is the belt tracking reliable, set and forget. V http://www.conquestind.com/pdf/Combo%20Disc%20and%20Belt%20Grinder%20&%20Sander%20by%20Conquest%20Industries.pdf Reading about the Grizzly, everyone mentions problems with the belt tracking not being stable. V http://www.grizzly.com/products/Combination-Sander-6-x-48-Belt-12-Disc-3450-RPM/G1183?utm_campaign=zPage&utm_medium=link&utm_source=direct Then there is this Jet machine, it has a belt tracking that I know is stable, V http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200406677_200406677 Thanks for reading RE: Conquest sander thoughts please - wawoodman - 03-29-2016 I'd look for an old, used Delta. That's another one of the tools I went through 2 or 3 of, before I bought the last one. But for instant gratification, go with the Jet. (It's easy to spend OPM!) RE: Conquest sander thoughts please - pepi - 03-30-2016 It is not about instant gratification, don't want to waste a bunch of time chasing parts and rebuilding a machine. I have projects too build, and need a machine that is ready to do work. New will be the path for me, am leaning towards the Jet machine cause the belt tracking is a good design. Currently selling a Jet edge sander, guy coming today to pick it up. Thank you for your input .. RE: Conquest sander thoughts please - the penguin - 03-30-2016 I've seen the Grizzly sander at the showroom/warehouse, when the facility in Muncy, Pa, was open, it's a usable piece but far from great. At 150#, it rather light, the Jet is about 200#, the Conquest is about 250# and has a Baldor motor. I have a Jet milling machine, a 7 x 12 bandsaw, 2 drill presses, numerous air tools and hydraulic jacks and a lathe. I've never has an issue with any of them, I had a broken drive door on the lathe on arrival, I had a new one in in 3 days, no question asked. I have a 6 x 48 Delta/Rockwell sander, that is a beast, but it has been basically replaced by a 2 x 48 high speed Jancy belt/grinder, a much more versatile machine, but the drawback is its about twice the price of the Jet, that Pepi posted the link to. the Jancy is a tool that's I use almost every day in the shop, I couldnt imagine being without it. I would think you would be happy with the Jet. RE: Conquest sander thoughts please - Roadracer_Al - 03-30-2016 An older friend who is getting into metalworking as his retirement hobby asked my opinion about which belt sander to get. I showed him most of the above (but not the Conquest, I'd not hear of them before, nice-looking sander). He got the better of the two Jet 6x48 sanders, and it's *real nice*. RE: Conquest sander thoughts please - rleete - 03-30-2016 I have my dad's old Craftsman belt/disc sander. The Jet looks to be just about the same one, except my tables are machined aluminum. RE: Conquest sander thoughts please - Dr Stan - 03-31-2016 I've had too many problems with Jet equipment in general and will not purchase any more of their products. I have an older Rockwell that is built like a tank which preforms like a new one. So, I'd go with the Conquest . |
