Fancy schmancy TIG cups. - Highpower - 09-27-2015

Got something new to try for the tig welder. I hope they work out as well as they claim.

Extra large Pyrex cups & diffusers that are supposed to lay down enough gas coverage in order to allow using an extra long tungsten stick-out. They claim it is the berries for getting down into the deep cramped corners of joints on things like tubular frames. The kit includes an extra cup, extra diffuser screens, o-ring seals and a titanium protection shield to help guard against breaking the Pyrex cup.

My usual go-to set-up is a #20 water cooled torch with a gas lens & ceramic cup.

This is the set-up using the "FUPA 12" Furick cup. We shall see.....   Chin

I saw those on a YouTube video yesterday. It'll be interesting to see if they work or are just another gimmick.

I'll keep watching for the results, I'd like something for reaching the awkward bits of 4-1 (bike) exhausts - some of the welds can only be reached from inside :-/

I have been contemplating trying a set of those after seeing them on Welding Tips and Tricks. Jody sells them through his online store but haven't brought myself to purchase a set yet. I have been using #10 and #12 Weldcraft cups on my WP20 torch for quite a while now and have been quite pleased, but always looking for an advantage.

Let us know how they work out. Better yet post up some pics of some stainless steel welded with one, that should be a good indicator.

Mike.

chop a piece of 2 inch tube into at about a 30 degree angle then weld them back together in a Vee shape see if you can reach all the way around it.

Yeah, me too Mike. I have been hemming and hawing about spending the dough on them for awhile now, but after thinking about all the money I've wasted on other things.....   Rolleyes

I think there are a couple of brief shots of some stainless welds in Jody's video.

I don't know that I have any but I'll look. I don't have room for a material storage rack like a lot of guys here have, and I normally just have to order raw stock as I need it.   Blush
