Digital Depth Gauge - Thumb - 06-25-2015 Now that I've got the mill on my bench and getting everything set up I was wondering and they probably do make a digital depth gauge I could mount on the mill? RE: Digital Depth Gauge - TomG - 06-25-2015 If you were to put a digital readout the X and Y axis would be the most logical. At this point though, your money would be better spent on basic accessories and tools. Look into hold down hardware for the table (studs and strap clamps), drill chucks, collets, angle plates, a rotary table, a dividing head, end mills, fly cutters, a decent milling vise, parallels, 123 blocks, drills, an edge finder, V-blocks, the list goes on and on... Tom RE: Digital Depth Gauge - Thumb - 06-25-2015 Thanks for your input TomG, I already bought a 58 Pc Combination Step Block and Clamp Set and have two different 1/2 chucks plus I was fortunate enough to get a bunch of end mills from my step father a few years ago. Drill bits I have plenty of from having the drill press also. I will have to look into those other accessories though that you mentioned. RE: Digital Depth Gauge - wawoodman - 10-15-2015 I've been taking the advice of many people here, and not buying anything special until I need it. I'm working on TomG.'s knurler, and buying stuff hand over fist. If he uses it on the video, I want it. (Well, except for the powerfeed on the mill table. Grumble, grumble...) As much fun as the project! RE: Digital Depth Gauge - Thumb - 02-24-2017 After milling out my first job I really would like to have a z-axis(vertical) digital readout so I know how deep I am going. As it is right now I have to back out and take a reading which is time consuming. Here are a couple pics of my mill and wondering if anyone here would know which readout would fit. RE: Digital Depth Gauge - wawoodman - 02-24-2017 I have one similar to this on my Rockwell: https://www.amazon.com/Digital-Readout-Measure-Vertical-Bridgeport/dp/B00LOAXJJE/ref=pd_lpo_328_lp_t_4?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=HFWV5NSNHEK3DKR8E3V2 RE: Digital Depth Gauge - Thumb - 02-24-2017 Thanks, I'll take a look at it. RE: Digital Depth Gauge - EdK - 02-24-2017 Here are a few options. Amazon Grizzly ebay ebay Shars The cheapest would be to buy a Harbor Freight 6" digital caliper and mount it to the spindle. Hope this helps. Ed RE: Digital Depth Gauge - ieezitin - 02-24-2017 You are better off with a DRO X Y scale, z is easy to get with indicators....also that machine has a terrible quill feed that has lumps in its action which is best suited to mechanical indicators. its extremely hard to get accurate depth measurements with your machine, I have the same mill and have lived with it for years, its achievable you just need to take notes.. Anthony.. RE: Digital Depth Gauge - DaveH - 02-26-2017 I made my own and used a dial indicator. I find it a lot easier to watch the pointer than numbers [attachment=14261] [attachment=14262] DaveH |
