Machining 4140 - EdK - 05-05-2015 Anybody know how annealed 4140 machines? Thanks, Ed RE: Machining 4140 - Mayhem - 05-05-2015 Take a look at this post Ed Have you been hitting the sauce? RE: Machining 4140 - PixMan - 05-05-2015 I thought I had been through that recently. Mayhem confirms. Ed, are the inserts I sent failing you in some way? RE: Machining 4140 - Mayhem - 05-05-2015 I only recalled as I was doing a search on 4140 a couple of weeks ago when it was recommended as the go to material for my drawbars. I'm hoping to progress some more on those this weekend. I did cut one of the lengths of 12.7 ground and faced it and it cut very nicely. I'm looking forward to cutting some threads in it. I'm an old fart, remember? (Thanks for the link). Ed RE: Machining 4140 - EdK - 05-05-2015 (05-05-2015, 08:08 AM)PixMan Wrote: ... No, I'm just getting prepared to work on a secret project that I'll be using 4140 hex bar for and wanted to make sure it was reasonably machinable. Remembering is a shortcoming for us, and a irritating fault of the younger. Steve RE: Machining 4140 - PixMan - 05-06-2015 They say memory is the second thing to go. Sorry, but I can't recall what is the first. |
