playing in the back yard again - dallen - 09-08-2014 here some video from the cast iron pour that I did yesterday afternoon RE: playing in the back yard again - dallen - 09-18-2014 For those that need a good laugh here's a video of my attempt yesterday to pour a couple parts in Cast Iron, it FAILED due to me not making the pouring basin big enough to catch and contain the molten metal. Had about fifteen pounds of molten cast iron in the crucible when I pulled it out of the furnace. Good example of not having things ready cause I thought that the mold would take and hold all the metal, so next time I get to use my new ingot mold blocks to ram up some place to pour the stuff cause its too hot to put in a coffee cup. DA RE: playing in the back yard again - doubleboost - 09-18-2014 You have that furnace funning nice now Pleased to see the visor John RE: playing in the back yard again - dallen - 09-18-2014 Visor keeps the heat out of the eyes so I can see into the furnace while its running RE: playing in the back yard again - dallen - 09-21-2014 I re did Wednesdays pour that was a disaster, I rammed up the same two patterns and had a successful pour which yielded two good parts. Seems like the new software doesn't like video's so here's the link so people can watch it anyway http://youtu.be/L-q0gSMVd3Q?list=UUrI7-d9QTAfX8fAp0ms_TXg David RE: playing in the back yard again - DaveH - 09-21-2014 (09-21-2014, 05:05 AM)dallen Wrote: Seems like the new software doesn't like video's so here's the link so people can watch it anywayIt does now DaveH RE: playing in the back yard again - dallen - 09-21-2014 (09-21-2014, 03:12 PM)DaveH Wrote: It does now Thanks for fixing that DaveH. David RE: playing in the back yard again - Shawn - 09-22-2014 I hope to one day get into pouring aluminium but till then I am really enjoying and learning lots from your videos. Thanks for posting Shawn RE: playing in the back yard again - dallen - 09-22-2014 Shawn, aluminum is pretty easy, doesn't take a lot of heat, brass and bronze's a little harder along with some more heat. If you get to thinking about Cast Iron then your going to have to find a whole bucket full of heat and the stuff can be stubborn as all hell to make it do what you want which is to come out of the sand soft enough to be able to cut it with something a little cheaper then a diamond. But all things taken into account its a pretty neat hobby and can easily warm up a cold winter day, or make you sweat like hell during the summer.
