First attempt at a knife - Shawn - 08-29-2014 I still need too clean it up a bit but it was a fun afternoon project and I can see making a few more once I get some proper stock. The blade is a broken power hacksaw blade with an old deer horn I had for the handle. RE: First attempt at a knife - Hawkeye - 08-29-2014 Cool. Could you outline your hardening and tempering routine, please? It would help any thinking of trying the same thing. RE: First attempt at a knife - Shawn - 08-30-2014 I didn't bother to anneal the hacksaw blade first. I was careful to not overheat it while grinding the profile and I used a dremell tool to grind out the two holes for the handle. I just checked the edge and a file still skates over the steel so my grind didn't get to hot. It was a fun project though and I'll be ordering some O1 plate to have another go. Shawn |
