R8 collet build - ieezitin - 07-03-2014

Hello lads.

I am building a R8 collet chuck that fits onto the nose of my lathe, my question is what angle is best at the hole where the collet seats into to clamp it closed, its a straight hole but you need the lead to guide it in.

Anthony.

I'd like to see your setup. I made a simple indexer for my mill that uses R8 collets a while back it has reamed holes that let me rotate the pin against the vise jaw for indexing. Saves from lifting the heavy index head onto the mill.[attachment=8929]
