New Mag Drill - the penguin - 04-23-2014 While working on the repairs to the 1000hp boiler gas housing, I found that my small mag drill, the Dura-Bore 35, is dying. By the time I was done, the unit was in need of last rites. So, off to the LWS I went to look at a new mag drill, with no intension of getting one today, but as they gave me a great trade-in on the Dura-Bore, I now have a new Jancy JHM 101 mag drill. Since I last bought a mag drill, Jancy was bought by Fein Tools, so the tool look exactly like a Jancy, but is now Fein orange. http://www.jancy.com/en_us/jhm-series/jhm-usa-101-03/ RE: New Mag Drill - PixMan - 04-25-2014 Fein Tools have always been top-quality. I have their original "multi-master" tool and it's a beast. Far heavier than the toy copies that followed it, the thing can't be killed. What do think of the build quality on your new one? RE: New Mag Drill - the penguin - 04-25-2014 I thought the built quality of the Jancy sourced tools (the other mag drills I own and the Jancy RadiusMaster belt grinder) was top notch, the only real difference I see is the color, looks identical to the older Jancy products. Apparently Fein sourced electronics for the mag drills was questionable (faulty) at first, but they are supposed to have that rectified. Fein's website for the drills is terrible (hard to get around), but the drill works fine. RE: New Mag Drill - starlight_tools - 04-29-2014 Been a repair centre for Fein for many years, they make good stuff, so I rarely see any in for repairs. I did recently pick up an old Jancy Mag Drill that needed repairs, came with the old B&D 1405 drill motor. Parts were scarce for this one, but I managed to find a couple of extra "dead" drill motors to scavenge parts from. Walter |
