Video - Profiling with a face mill - wrustle - 01-17-2014 Have a repeat job we do a few times a year and it just came up again so thought I'd give it a go in the new machine. Using my Walter 2.00 face mill with Walter aluminum specific inserts we profiled .270" deep, and at one point in the cut it is taking a 1.75" width of cut. 9,550 RPM and 200 IPM giving me 5,000 SFM. I just love this cutter!! Enjoy the video! RE: Video - Profiling with a face mill - PixMan - 01-17-2014 Wow, nice! I know you were topping out at 7500 rpm and 40 inches per minute on the older Haas VF0, so that's quite a leap with the new VF2SS. Nice having the 3-phase power on that machine now too. I couldn't help but notice the spindle motor load was just shy of 100% load at the widest part of the toolpath, so you know there's more available when you need it. The motors are rated for 50% more load in short bursts like that. The cutter is a Walter F4041.UB.051.Z04.13, and I believe Ed has one of those as well. I've never heard any reports from him about the cutter though. RE: Video - Profiling with a face mill - Arbalest - 01-18-2014 Nice video, thanks for posting! RE: Video - Profiling with a face mill - Sunset Machine - 01-18-2014 Nice! Can I borrow it? RE: Video - Profiling with a face mill - DaveH - 01-18-2014 Quick eh! Thanks for showing DaveH RE: Video - Profiling with a face mill - EdK - 01-18-2014 (01-17-2014, 09:21 PM)PixMan Wrote: ... Ken, I was going to use it for the first time on a project about 4 weeks ago. I had to build some guards to mount on the mill table to prevent the swarf from shooting all over the shop. I got those done and was all set up to start milling the project when I had to tear it down to do some machining on a project for my real job. Life has since gotten in the way and I haven't stepped foot in the shop for weeks now. When I do get back to the project, I plan on doing a video of the cutter in use. Ed RE: Video - Profiling with a face mill - doubleboost - 01-18-2014 Nice Makes good music John RE: Video - Profiling with a face mill - Mayhem - 01-23-2014 I've only just watched this, as I've had some internet issues. That is one nice machine Russ. I love the tool changer! |
