5" cross slide travel for 7x12s - Brian - 11-13-2013 Having trouble getting around big diameter's on your 7x-- try this. [attachment=7242] Problem solved. Brian. RE: 5" cross slide travel for 7x12s - MikeK - 11-13-2013 Brian, Thanks for the write up. Did you relocate the cross slide nut to allow increased travel toward the operator? I think what most mini lathe owners have done is to mill out material in the cross slide base. Here are two examples: http://gadgetbuilder.com/CrossSlide.html http://mikesworkshop.weebly.com/cross-slide-extended-travel.html Can you show us about your half nuts and the new location? Regards, Mike RE: 5" cross slide travel for 7x12s - Brian - 11-13-2013 Hi Mike One of rhe early jobs I did on the lathe years ago was to mill out the slot in the saddle and add a spacer to get more travel but you loose an equal amount at the opposite end of the travel, the new feed screw cures this.its a old mod as is spliting the nut into two, is a very old 7x10 mod I dont know who did it first, but I have added a couple of refinements to make it Even better the location remains the same. I will do another post later covering this and other work. Brian RE: 5" cross slide travel for 7x12s - EdK - 11-13-2013 (11-13-2013, 03:45 PM)Brian Wrote: ... Please do. Ed RE: 5" cross slide travel for 7x12s - Brian - 11-14-2013 Hi Mike. I found a photo of the mod to the saddle slot showing the extra area milled out and the spacer to push the lead screw out to get more room towards the front of the lathe.
