Silver Soldering - f350ca - 12-16-2012
I'm not an expert at silver soldering, sometimes get good results, usually messy. The silver solder I had, (used the last soldering cast iron sleeves into steel pipe for the tool grinder) seamed to act more like brazing rod, real high melting point and poor flow(would wet the surface but not wick into a gap), even when I had things clean and used the white flux I have.
Anyway need more material, is this what I should be getting?

I use Harris SafetySil45, and sometimes I do excellent and others not so good. that should work its got 56% silver, but others on here are more versed in silver soldering then I am.

I silver solder a lot at work. I use the same Harris SS45 as above. I do like the black paste flux better than the white for steel apps. It has a higher heat range...Bob

Thanks for the responses guys. Is the Harris SS45 45% silver then, I see it has a slightly higher melting temp. With the additional silver will this flow or wick beter? With the price of silver I expected solder to be more expensive. Been years since I had to buy any.
