Roller v-blocks??? - Highpower - 12-01-2012 Are this things made from unobtainium or what? I can't seem to find a supplier for these, other than in India. I have also struck out trying to find any drawings of them to make a set. Surely they can't be that rare??? [attachment=3870] RE: Roller v-blocks??? - stevec - 12-02-2012 I can't see their utility. But Stevec if they build it someone will BUY it RE: Roller v-blocks??? - the penguin - 12-02-2012 (12-02-2012, 08:44 AM)dallen Wrote:(12-02-2012, 07:54 AM)stevec Wrote: I can't see their utility. I have a set or rollers that looks similar to that, but larger, designed to roll pipe as its being welded. I made some using heavy angle ond old double race wheel bearings Use them for welding pipe John RE: Roller v-blocks??? - Highpower - 12-02-2012 (12-02-2012, 07:54 AM)stevec Wrote: I can't see their utility. Steve, Rolling pipe / shafts for welding - Indicating bent shafts for straightening - Static balance of shaft assemblies (fan blades / mower blades / pulleys etc.) RE: Roller v-blocks??? - sasquatch - 12-02-2012 Didn't know there was such a thing other than for welding. RE: Roller v-blocks??? - stevec - 12-02-2012 OK, I can see the applications but there seems to be more precision (cost) involved in a pretty set like that. RE: Roller v-blocks??? - Highpower - 12-02-2012 Nothing more than a block holding a pair of ball bearings really. They don't need to be precision high-speed bearings. I have a miniature set that is part of a fixture for straightening aluminum arrow shafts. Beats buying new shafts every time one gets tweaked from taking a hard hit. I have even used it to balance the rotor blade assemblies on my RC helicopter back in the day. I'm just looking to step up in size so that I can handle larger shafts / projects. Folks like Keith Fenner (Turn Wright Machine Works) rely on them for the bulk of his business rebuilding marine shafting. By the way, he has some great machining videos on YouTube, well worth watching if you haven't seen them. RE: Roller v-blocks??? - Mayhem - 12-03-2012 I'd imagine someone with your skills would be able to make up a set (or two) fairly easily Willie. |
