RE: ER32 Collet Chuck for Proxxon PD 400 - Wongster - 05-19-2012 A little update. Found a suitable aluminium stock to make the gauge for the recess. After turning steel, I forgotten how easy it is to turn aluminium. A little was turn off the diameter till it just fit the recess at the back of the 4 jaw chuck. The partially completed chuck remounted in the 3 jaw to turn off the OD and square off the back. Finally, I'm ready to turn the recess. But that will be in the next session either tonight or tomorrow morning. RE: ER32 Collet Chuck for Proxxon PD 400 - RobWilson - 05-19-2012 Hi Wong I see your making good steady progress Rob RE: ER32 Collet Chuck for Proxxon PD 400 - Wongster - 05-19-2012 Hi Rob, Slow would be the word but I'm not complaining. Actually had some opportunities during weekdays but was feeling lazy after long day at work. I'll be on compliance leave for 2 weeks soon. Will want to shop for a mill. Regards, Wong RE: ER32 Collet Chuck for Proxxon PD 400 - DaveH - 05-19-2012 Wong, Looking good, take your time, slow and steady will always reap the rewards The aluminium gauge you have made - keep it safe DaveH RE: ER32 Collet Chuck for Proxxon PD 400 - Wongster - 05-19-2012 Hi Dave, Wanted to do some work tonight but I can't seem to get my arse off the bed... I'm just lazing around reading a WW2 novel on my iPhone. I'll be getting back to finish up the recess in the morning. Regards, Lazy Wong RE: ER32 Collet Chuck for Proxxon PD 400 - Wongster - 05-19-2012 Hi Dave, I was looking at the 2 pics you posted in your thread on boring the register. The impression I have for boring is to have a large enough hole for the boring bar. You had a small hole drilled instead. Can you share the steps involved? Regards, Wong RE: ER32 Collet Chuck for Proxxon PD 400 - DaveH - 05-19-2012 Hi Wong, You are correct and it is better and easier to have a hole large enough for the boring bar to go into. I think in my case the hole I wanted to do (at the time) was 17mm dia., the boring bar needs 18mm dia hole to go into. I do have smaller boring bars, so why didn't I change to a smaller boring bar. Two reasons, a larger boring bar is more rigid and less chance of 'chatter' and the second reason - I was too damn lazy to change it I think at the time the second reason took preference The hole in the centre helps to give the boring bar a "start" when the tool is moved (cutting) towards you. The hole in the centre also helps when the boring tool is cutting away from you - you know when to stop, and stops the material rubbing on the tool tip (in the reverse direction) if you go past the centre. Hope that makes sort of sense DaveH RE: ER32 Collet Chuck for Proxxon PD 400 - Wongster - 05-19-2012 Hi Dave, The operation of making the recess is like that of facing? The edge of the recess clean up after? Regards, Wong RE: ER32 Collet Chuck for Proxxon PD 400 - DaveH - 05-19-2012 Hi Wong, In this case - dead right DaveH RE: ER32 Collet Chuck for Proxxon PD 400 - Wongster - 05-19-2012 Roger that. Thanks Dave. This will give me some confident for the next session. Regards, Wong |
