Life would be pretty dull if I never made any mistakes. I have nothing to fear in that category. Ed RE: Shop Press - arvidj - 05-01-2013 If it is only "I deleted the pictures" then we understand. If it had been "I pressed the camera ..." then we would be worried. RE: Shop Press - EdK - 05-01-2013 (05-01-2013, 05:24 PM)arvidj Wrote: If it is only "I deleted the pictures" then we understand. Ed RE: Shop Press - starlight_tools - 05-02-2013 The summary of both posts was to the gist of. Ed On my press, I took two pieces of 1/2" x 6" FB the length of the angle iron feet and bolted on four footmaster casters, making sure that two bolts for each caster went through the angle iron and the other two just went through the FB. This way I can roll the press around to where I need it and then level it for use. I have the added benefit of raising the press up the height of the casters, about 5" to a better working height. Mayhem Just be glad you are so far away from Horrible Freight as all I have ever heard about them is horror stories, Less temptation to get junk, LOL Walter RE: Shop Press - EdK - 05-02-2013 (05-02-2013, 10:04 AM)starlight_tools Wrote: The summary of both posts was to the gist of. Walter, Other than FaceBook, what does FB stand for? Ed RE: Shop Press - TomG - 05-02-2013 My HF rule of thumb is to never buy anything from them with more than one moving part, but every so often the temptation becomes too great. I have a 12 ton open frame press from them that works quite well, but I also have an autobody buffer that is of horrendous quality. The gear whine is so loud that I have to wear ear protection when using it and I had to modify the handle to make it fit. Noisy as all get out. I pulled the heads apart and packed the gears with (real) grease and it made a huge difference. The little dab of beeswax they put in at the factory doesn't cut it. At $9.00 if I burn one up, I won't feel bad about tossing it after stripping it for spare parts. RE: Shop Press - TomG - 05-02-2013 That's a good idea Willie. When I bought the buffer, I was up to my ears in the Chevelle paint job so tearing it apart wasn't high on my list of priorities. Note that in a total 'how lazy can you be' moment I replace the winch crank with an old 3/8ths extension so I can use a 3/8th air ratchet to run the winch. Arvid, Can you tell me where you bought the winch you installed on your shop press? Thanks, Ed RE: Shop Press - arvidj - 10-05-2013 I think it was this one ... http://www.harborfreight.com/1000-lb-capacity-hand-winch-65688.html. With a 20% off coupon it seemed to be the cheapest I could find. Extra cable and pullies from Mills Fleet Farm. Your basic budget build. |
