RE: Indexable insert face mills and shoulder mills - Mayhem - 08-28-2015 Here is a 5/8" Valenite CenterDex Drill/mill. This is one of the centre cutting ones: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Walter-Valenite-Centre-Dex-5-8-S-VMSP-048R-90CCC-Indexable-End-Mill-1-2-Shank-/171874835859?hash=item280489dd93 RE: Indexable insert face mills and shoulder mills - PixMan - 08-28-2015 I don't understand why that tool is listed with 5/8" anywhere in the description! It's a 1/2" shank, and the diameter hole it would make in plunging is .480" if spinning on center. That's the smallest they make, though a shorter one is available. I have one of the shorter ones. In owning it for a few years, I've still not gotten around to buying the hard-to-find SECW21.21 size insert or it. OTOH, I have a 1" cut 2-insert version that gets a fair amount of use and takes easier to find SD322P (SPEB/SPGH 090308) inserts. Tools is S-VMSP 100R 90CCC. RE: Indexable insert face mills and shoulder mills - Mayhem - 08-28-2015 Good to know the inserts are rare. Perhaps that is why it is so cheap. I'm happy with my S-VMSP 100R 90CCC but saw the one I listed when searching for something else and thought it may be a good buy form someone else. I guess that is not the case. RE: Indexable insert face mills and shoulder mills - EdK - 08-28-2015 This looks like a decent deal. I'm tempted. http://www.superiormachinetools.com/walter-1-end-mill-centre-dex-s-vmsp-100r-90ccc-75-shank-325-oal-loc1581-smt14362 Ed RE: Indexable insert face mills and shoulder mills - PixMan - 08-28-2015 (08-28-2015, 05:38 PM)EdK Wrote: This looks like a decent deal. I'm tempted. Don't be tempted! If you want one I can get you one for $40 + shipping. New in box. A friend of mine retired out of 26+ years with Valenite and has at least a dozen of those same cutters available. No inserts, but they are new and have the Torx wrench. RE: Indexable insert face mills and shoulder mills - Mayhem - 08-28-2015 What else does your friend have Ken? I'm definitely interested. Let me know what the total cost is and I'll take one. Thanks, Ed RE: Indexable insert face mills and shoulder mills - PixMan - 08-28-2015 (08-28-2015, 07:01 PM)Mayhem Wrote: What else does your friend have Ken? He also has even more of the 2-insert 45º chamfering tools. They are S-VMSP 138R 45CF. They take the same inserts as the S-VMSP 100R 90CCC, and because they also have a 3/4" shank some people use them as a mini "face mill." Same deal. $40 + shipping. I'll take one of those also please. Ed RE: Indexable insert face mills and shoulder mills - Mayhem - 08-29-2015 I'm definitely interested. My Mum will be in the US in a couple of weeks, I'll find out the address of her friend. I think it is somewhere in PA. |
