I'd be losing some hair thinking about cutting all of those cooling fins. Sweat

Hi  Tom.
One of the uses of the jigs  is to locate the cylinder firmly to the rotary table so I can cut the fins with a slitting saw on the mill.
I did not fancy trying to do these with a parting tool on the 7X12, Just a step to far for me.

Yes Tom we have Winter when it rains and we have to wear a coat . and we have summer when its to hot to move.
and that's all.
Work is progressing will post pictures later.

The first cylinder was made to prove the jigs . the remaining 4 will be made as a batch to save time and effort.
First the blank is prepared to fit the jig.

Then the holes for the studs are drilled.

And the fins cut.

the jig and cylinder is then put on the lathe and the bore roughed out.

and the taper  of the fins done.

Final finishing to be done later

Great stuff Brian. I have always pictured the taper being cut before the fins, I learned something.

Nice work Brian. It looks like the work in building the jigs was time well spent. I'm looking forward to seeing this build progress...

Good progress Brian.

I had envisioned the fins much thinner, hence my apprehension. Are you sure these will provide enough cooling? I've only built one IC engine but if I remember correctly, the cooling fins were about .07" thick.
