I think your starting out with too coarse a grit sandpaper and creating more work than necessary. It would be nice to see an example of the type of finish you're attempting to achieve. If you're looking for a chromed finish look, I don't think you're going to get it with just sanding and polishing aluminum.

i actuly do have a "3m scotch brite metal finishing pad" on the back it says very fine i havent used it because it doesnt list a grit number so i didnt know what order to put it in.
also it is just a flat pad not a wheel its not to thick tho.
i could probily cut out a square and fit it in handhelp power sander
any advice?

According to 'Pixman' his post #7 it will leave a nice "brushed" finish and it can then be buffed and polished.

yeh i read that too but he doesnt say wether is corse med fine....
i did a quick search on them and there are so many diffrent kinds with different grits and different purpose
just seeing if any one knew i am going to go try on a small piece so i can see how it turns out fairly quickly

That's a good plan. Experiment on small samples until you find out what works best for you.

so ok i think i figured one thng out today.....
everything i have read always makes it a point to note "do not put to much compound on" or "apply little apply often"
so seeing this EVERY WHERE i think i was over compansating and not putting on enough the piece that i did the other day took forever i think because i was listening too much to these sugestions
today i sanded and i just polished with sisal wheel and emery compound. (taking break) not quite done yet but...
i put a lil more compound on each time today and things went MUCH faster
one thing i am curious about is (i dont have a rake) so i have been using a wire brush.
are you suposes to "rake" or in my case brush the wheel just before and after each use or every time you apply more compound do you rake first ???/

Rake when the wheel is getting matted. I usually do it every other application.
