RE: 32x40 H Gas Engine - krv3000 - 10-15-2014 its shaping up nice RE: 32x40 H Gas Engine - Brian - 10-16-2014 Hi Tom. The crank will be built up on a one piece shaft and the center cut out when its all in line, the drawing shows the center between the webs still in place. I will probably put in the keyway's for the flywheels and screwcut the retaining threads before removing this section, A lot of thinking to do before cutting metal. meanwhile I am moving on with the connecting rod. Brian. RE: 32x40 H Gas Engine - Mayhem - 10-16-2014 I'm watching this thread with interest Brian. Thank you for sharing. RE: 32x40 H Gas Engine - Brian - 10-20-2014 [attachment=9423] The connecting rod blank was set up in the mill and the holes for the cap bolts drilled, The cap end was then cut off. [attachment=9424] The cap blank was made the correct size and the rod blank trimmed. [attachment=9425] The cap blank was reunited with the rod blank and using a series on slotting drills the bore was opened to 16mm BUT on measuring it was 15.5 ***?- chinky cheap tools. [attachment=9426] Luckily I had not moved the X Y so i fitted the boring head to finish the job. [attachment=9427] Now waiting for the next stage. [attachment=9428] Onward and upward Brian. RE: 32x40 H Gas Engine - Brian - 10-24-2014 After drilling the small end the rotary table was fitted along with a pin to fit the small end and the OD milled to shape. [attachment=9447] The sides milled to shape. [attachment=9448] [attachment=9449] Just needs a clean up. [attachment=9450] Onward and upward. Brian RE: 32x40 H Gas Engine - EdK - 10-24-2014 Brian, What type of steel is that you're machining? Ed RE: 32x40 H Gas Engine - TomG - 10-24-2014 Looks like type 6061 to me. Ed RE: 32x40 H Gas Engine - DaveH - 10-24-2014 Nice work Brian DaveH RE: 32x40 H Gas Engine - Brian - 10-25-2014 Hi all the alloy is 5083 I hope it will be strong enough it will have a bronze big end bearing with a positive oil feed through the crank pin. Getting material is a big problem for me local suppliers' only have Black steel that is awful to turn but lots of stainless because of the marine -- olive oil and wine industry Brian |
