RE: The Other Measuring Tools - EdK - 12-15-2012 Speaking of Starrett V-blocks, I forgot I had these. I got them a long time ago from, I think, Travers Tool. These are the Starrett 268 V-blocks. Ed [attachment=4020] RE: The Other Measuring Tools - TomG - 12-16-2012 Here is a little gem I acquired at a tool sale. It's a Pratt & Whitney machine level and it's pretty much brand new in its mahogany box. It's 15" long and accurate to .0005" per foot. RE: The Other Measuring Tools - PixMan - 12-16-2012 That thing is BEAUTIFUL Tom! I envy you that one. All I've got is a 6" Starrett No.98 machinist's level, good to only .005" per foot. No pics of it...yet. Paid $5 for it so it was a good buy. Let me know if you EVER want to sell that one! RE: The Other Measuring Tools - TomG - 12-16-2012 Thanks Ken, it is a beautiful thang. I don't use it often, but sometimes I'll just take it out and look at it. They seriously don't make them like that any more. I've often been curious as to when it was made but haven't a clue how to find out. It's not like you can pull out a Pratt & Whitney catalog and look it up. Any ideas? Tom RE: The Other Measuring Tools - PixMan - 12-16-2012 My only Lufkin tool, gifted to me by a guy I helped. He needed a new Acme screw and nut made for his Atlas shaper, and insisted upon giving me this Lufkin Planer Gauge as he had two. RE: The Other Measuring Tools - Bill Gruby - 12-17-2012 I check hundreds of crankshafts after models crash. These Starrett Bench Centers are invaluable. "Billy G" RE: The Other Measuring Tools - mikecwik - 12-22-2012 I snapped this picture at work of one of their hardness testers. I was told it is from the 1950's. I think its beautiful. I was going to see if the guy using it would be up for a video explaining its use since i dont know how to use it but i was working and i usually feel i should be working at work and when the guy using it is your boss..... I'll get around to it one day im sure though. RE: The Other Measuring Tools - Mayhem - 12-22-2012 Thanks for the pic Mike. Perhaps approach him after hours, as I would enjoy seeing it in action. I've only ever seen one hardness tester before (other than a file) and that was on a recent visit to Tools4Cheap.net. That one was much larger and not as ornate. RE: The Other Measuring Tools - DaveH - 12-23-2012 Mike, That is nice, I agree beautiful DaveH RE: The Other Measuring Tools - stevec - 12-23-2012 Mike. I sure would have felt uncomfortable if I couldn't have asked my boss a question like that during working hours. I might have suggested we could do it after hours, but it must be awful if you can't even talk to him during work hours. |
