RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - stevec - 12-06-2012 marf, you're definitely ready for a step up from the 7x16, with my eyesight I'd have a hard time finding it in my mess/shop. Good job! RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - f350ca - 12-06-2012 Very nicely done. Don't you love the imort junk we buy then have to spend hours to make it work. In this case your friend is lucky to have someone to fix it. RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - marfaguy - 12-06-2012 Steve,
Thanks! Given your expertise, I really appreciate the assessment. I've worked on modding my little 7x16 a lot. The tail stock assembly was a joke. There was absolutely no way to not end up with an indeterminate taper when turning between centers. I re-worked the tailstock base so now it's about .0005" out in 10" or so and can be confidently adjusted. I'm planning on selling this one next year and upgrading. I'm hoping that with the mods I've made I can get a good price. f350ca, Agreed. On the other hand it would be hard to come up with a different/another solution since the manufacturers can't know what bearing diameters the customer has so in a way the cones make sense. That said, there is no excuse for the internal bore to not match the axle diameter better. The cones to axle fit feel like they were just drilled, and not bored or reamed. That's just dumb and or sloppy. RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - EdK - 12-07-2012 Nice mod on the HF balancing tool. At least you where able to make some use out of it rather than tossing it. Ed RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - sasquatch - 12-07-2012 Had a bunch of errands to do today, then diddled a bit with the shaper, built a new gib for the carriage as the other one had been replaced at some time, and was too thin. Not too sore and crippled up today, as yesterday i hauled 3 pickup part loads of gravel for the drive before it freezes solid, MAN i hate shovelling GRAVEL!! Definetly a young mans job!! Lol RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - ETC57 - 12-07-2012 I 'm a firm believer in hydraulics and diesel fuel when handling sand and gravel. Jerry. RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - EdK - 12-08-2012 I gassed up the snow blower, checked the oil and fired it up. We're suppose to get our first shovel-able and plow-able snow of this winter. They are saying 6 inches. After the snow tapers off we are suppose to get very strong winds and the temperature is suppose to plummet. I hate winter. Ed RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - sasquatch - 12-08-2012 Agreed Ed, we just got 4-5 inches of wet slippery greasy snow, was headed to my sons this morning to help him do some wiring, but turned around and came back, as it was tricky driving-nothing plowed yet,- plus a tractor trailer load of steel stuck on the highway. Low tonight down to almost 0F which will makes things crusty with much better traction. RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - stevec - 12-08-2012 I hear ya Ed, and agree. We've been lucky ,so far??? RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - EdK - 12-08-2012 (12-08-2012, 05:38 PM)stevec Wrote: I hear ya Ed, and agree. We've been lucky ,so far??? They've upped the total snow fall from this storm to 6 - 9 inches now. Oh joy! Ed |
