RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - rleete - 02-06-2024 Looks like a beast. RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - EdK - 02-27-2024 I needed to replace the table on the belt grinder because stuff would get caught in the grooves of the original table. Mainly lathe tool bits that I was trying to grind. It took a lot of passed with a 3/16" end mill to get that slot cut. Ed [attachment=18587] [attachment=18588] RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - rleete - 02-27-2024 Maybe a foolish question, but why didn't you just mill or flycut the existing table? That would make the table too thin, in my opinion. Ed RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - rleete - 02-27-2024 Yeah, I measured mine (just because), and I agree with that assessment. I may have to make something for mine, but I'd probably use PVC or polypro. Ed RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - rubes - 03-18-2024 Since it was below freezing, and snowing in Chicago today, I worked inside. I have a crusty old set of SnapOn turn plates for doing car alignments that I am restoring. One of the cast aluminum handle brackets was broken, and the degree indicator labels are ugly and corroded. I also have a pimped out Shapeoko router so whittled out some replacement parts. new handle brackets; [attachment=18620] first pass at a proof of process label prototype. engraving filled with black paint: [attachment=18621][attachment=18622] the pimped out Shapeoko: [attachment=18623] RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - rubes - 04-05-2024 Finished off the degree labels. And made an all new replacement handle. need to make a second one now. [attachment=18635] [attachment=18636] RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - rubes - 04-12-2024 More Turn Plate stuff. The locking pins to keep them from rotating looked like they may have been chrome, or at least some kind of plating. All rusty and gross. And of course all the drive screws broke when removing the plated chains too. Drilled out the broken screws, had some black chain in stock, and some new drive screws and good as new. Oh, I blackened them by sand blasting, then heating and dunking in old motor oil a few times. I did bugger one up by forgetting to use the aluminum plates in the vice jaws when hammering in the drive screw, duh. I really need to learn how to get before pics too [attachment=18640] RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - rleete - 04-12-2024 Looks good. The rest will get scratched up in use, and that will end up being the best looking one in a couple of years. |
