Running out of room over hear.....  no room to put no more tool boxes machines  not sure how im gona make it all work yet .With the bench table saw and my long lost refurb band saw project....lol... .Ohh Good news  finilay took a day off afta staying till 12.30 am at my job putting up ducks and blowers. The correct!!!!! way that we should have had 19 months ago...  Better news  yet . Yesterday  found an add of a Job shop hiring  5 miles away .. this can be my move out of my dead end job . Maybe I wont need to reinvent myself and work in the garge afta all ..I can work hard be challenged get paid for efforts and go fishing again . Big Grin

RE: Making ready for new Mill /Lathe - Kennyv - 08-10-2015

Been busy workin getting shop in order getting my girders back together, seems I have to fix this to fix that modify this to get that going . All WIP . Making ready for the New mill to arrive . Soon ill be at 100% . Gota get the refurnished band saw back together too...lol..
Moved my lathe into position last week still have to drop down the leveling mounts to be official.y in place . However yesterday was “Rock and Roll”

Spend time first time with my new lathe on Sunday. Turned a few things one spacer for girder and had to bore out some hardened washers to fit an arbor . No pics unless I have to post them . Ok I have some great news. Man I am one happy camper with this lathe . In the last few weeks been getting all my tooling together ,now all the maintenance has been done as well. Yesterday before I did my work I decided to redial in the spindle bushings . Took everything apart cleaned and reassembled . Than I proceeded to check for runnout as I started to assemble . Took readings prior and after the adjustments . After reassembly and adjustments she was . “Dead Nuts” , “Spot on” as Sr. used to say “ BULOVA “ and ill say she is “tits” No spindle run out . None Nata That puppy is running so smooth the indicator needle is barely vibrating. Than I proceeded to do fulcrum test and got about . 0005 run out . Im ok with that for now. Jmho no reason to make things too tight and create excessive ware.

To date I have never dialed in south bends spindle bearings. Not sure what is proper protocol right now I still have one .002 on each mounting bolt . On the procedure for adjusting it say you can remove one shim from one side . But id like to hear from one of you SB owners before going any further .

If anyone knows what proper protocol is please explain in better detail thanks allot

Been busy as hec at work only spent a little time in garage however turned out a few small  lathe projects that I needed to get  other machines up and running  ..

Took everything apart cleaned and reassembled . Than I proceeded to check for runnout as I started to assemble . Took readings prior and after the adjustments . After reassembly and adjustments she was . “Dead Nuts” , “Spot on” as Sr. used to say “ BULOVA “ and ill say she is “****” No spindle run out . None Nata That puppy is running so smooth the indicator needle is barely vibrating. Than I proceeded to do fulcrum test and got about . 0005 run out . Im ok with that for now. Jmho no reason to make things too tight and create excessive ware.

Now All  I hav to  say is  this lathe is top shelf  all I attempt  to do the lathe does what its supposed to do .. Btw after I dialed her in  can not find anything to fix .. Adjusted the brass bearing shims on spindle no need to buy a new spindle .Did a full head bearing adjustment less than .0002 TIR now  .
, the lathe is smooth very ez to work on ... Its been a dream to finially  have a functional lathe in my home .One happy camper  thanks so much guys  Smile

Took a Vacation  day off on Thur  spent a few Hours under my craw space playing  Electrician /Plummer/ construction guy ,found a nice sink hole had to address . O well half a day shot. came out like the swamp thing ...... Nice day to spend vacation day  under the house

However   All set now Power is in garage 220V singe phase   air lines are all hooked  ready to "Rock N Roll"
Got shipping confirmation  for  this upcoming Tues on my new mill  PM 932 PDF . Maybe some Good news . So far it looks like the beer fridge is staying we will see when mill is in place

Just me, but I've never placed any priority to having cold beer close to my shop or vehicles. Working on bikes, cars, or machinery and drinking are for me two completely separate activities. I'm not hoping to change your priorities, just felt like sharing where I stand on the matter.

Sota a joke ( sorta its my garage ) but thanks
btw I take my work seriously believe in safety and know my limits .. Miller time is always after ..... anyways mentioning the beer fridge well that goes back to making room in garage for Mill had to get rid of shelves and motioned may need to get rid of beer / bait fridge or down size ....... and the fell'as on the forum said "no No No don't sacrifice the priorities .. so that was an extended Joke .. and what makes it funny is im not joking ;)

THANKS Rob ...still workin out some Chinese bugs with motor and machine wiring .. not gona officially do any chippen till my elect box is all closed up.. can work in forward tho...... lol... still haven't trammed mill yet or have taken cuts fixed all my collet draw bar issues ..... . than motor crapped out . I have a few ideas for mods that may keep me busy and learning for a while ..

but than no actual work . Than again I need to make some tooling mostly for the lathe. Such as die holders, ball/ rad turner and indexer for workin on my 10" Southbend . Love to make some dials which ill need a fixture for staping engraving graduations. If ya have any ideas for the tooling send it my way . I see you are very well gifted with making tooling . Love to learn from well respected elder of the trade.. Btw after seeing your taper attachment I tried to write you but noticed you had your PM option disabled . Guess ya get allot of fan mail perhaps not all the time for all our silly Q's.lol.... anyways love to learn from your work . Its too bad after all these years I don't have much job shop experience . Now in my late 40's im learning what I missed on my own. Thanks for all the encouragement and your contribution to this forum . Hope ta make ya proud with some tooling . Thumbsup
