I don't know about a "restoration" but I'll certainly keep everyone up on my progress getting it back in to operation. I predict that there will be so many future posts you guys will get tired of seeing it. Blush

Here is my little effort Blush

It sits on an old toolbox that i was going to throw on ebay. Took the wheels off and fitted a bit of 1/2 " ply on the base to stiffen it up a little then found some stainless steel commercial kitchen unit legs at the car booty and screwed them on Smile

I have a question about all the talk of going 3 phase to get variable speed? 17428

my smithy runs on 115v 20 amp with 2hp and variable speed DC other than smother running and a little less draw once running why 3 phase? Chin

Jerry, 3-phase motors are plentiful and more common. And they use the same frames that are used by single phase motors - so it's just easier to convert to that, rather than converting over to DC I suppose. 17428

Especially if you are running multiple machines as you can power them all from a single rotary phase converter.

I believe DC motors are not as good at the low speeds as a 3-phase motor with a sensorless vector VFD. I'm sure the DC motor experts will correct me if I'm wrong so take it for what it's worth.
