RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - pepi - 04-24-2017 Rained all day, in need of some entertainment, decided to work out some problems. That the fire breathing weed eater I cobbled up had to be solved . The lathe shines here for this type of deal, went to HD found a steel peg of some sort stored with the rebar, 3/4 x 2.5, 6 bucks. Back home, commenced playing, first extend the wand ruffly a foot, no more leaning over. That and 6 bucks, some junk wheels, a lathe, some axel and bearing sizing, and welding kept me entertained for a rainy day. Was a good day, I can tell you that..... Greg [attachment=14365] Woodstock's answer to agent orange RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - Vinny - 04-24-2017 Finished it over the weekend. The only thing left is to clean up and paint the three drawers that go in the front. Right now they're a nasty dirty scratched up green. RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - Vinny - 05-03-2017 The above mill stand is now finished, drawers, shelf, levelers and all. After that I had to tear out a 3' x 8' bench that was never meant to come out, but it's gone - found a few things I'd been looking for under it too! The mill is on this new stand and the stand is in place. Pic are in its project thread. That cleared up some space for the kick press to come in. Hoping to do that Saturday. On the wall, however, above that old bench, were a bunch of shelves where I had things (tools, etc) for the mini-lathe, mill, and just other junque. Well it had to go somewhere, besides that round cylinder with the plastic liner, so I built this. Still need to finish the front and put the door on, but in finishing it up last nite I managed to strain a hamstring so this part is slowing down. This getting old ***** sucks! I did manage to get two of the shelves down with the items on it either in this new cabinet, in one of the drawers of the other cabinet or the mill stand, or in the aforementioned cylinder. RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - EdK - 05-06-2017 Cut up the wood for bins to store small stock. Got one assembled, the others will have to wait for another day. Ed [attachment=14407] RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - Vinny - 05-06-2017 Looks good. I'm going to have to do something similar in the not too distant future. On another note, I got the press in the shop finally and of course it was an adventure. I went to pick it up with the hilo and one of the hydraulic lines blew - the one for tilt. So I could still lift things, but everything lifted slid right off the forks. Eventually I slid it on all the way and strapped it to the front of the forks and lifted. Got it just inside the overhead door where a moving dolly was waiting for it. Set it down on the dolly and went to move the hilo. Nope, fork frame was too far forward and picked up part of the ramp in front of the door so it won't move. After a bit of swearing I got it backed up and parked it. Back inside I rolled the press over to where it would live and in trying to get it off the dolly it must have been tired 'cuze it decided to lay down. Too heavy to lift and I ain't gettin the hilo in here. Found a long heavy pipe, used the leverage to stand it back up again and walked it back where it needed to go. At that point I decided that was enough for one day. No pics, ain't even goona try. There's no tellin what may break next. RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - Mayhem - 05-06-2017 Sounds like quite the adventure Vinny. However, no pics = no like RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - Vinny - 05-06-2017 If I try to take a pic, the camera will break, then I'll plug it into the computer and it'll break, then ... RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - pepi - 05-09-2017 So it all started here...... what's the puddle? Looking around it was dripping from the shock mount, and only after parked for a few days. Sniff test indicated gear oil. [attachment=14408] A little labor and wrenching later [attachment=14409] Add a furniture dolly and a manly push, it arrives at the shop door [attachment=14410] Drag it over to the chain fall, a lift onto jack stands, a portable work bench is established. Upending and finding the wet spot. Found on the inside of the lower control arm axle bracket. Welder took care of it. So it sits ready to be installed, could do that after work, but may just wait for the weekend. Ants in the pants will be the decision maker for that [attachment=14411] I pound on the car for sport from time to time and these things happen. To own any modified car one is way better off having the tools and whatever to fix this. Cheers Greg RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - awemawson - 05-09-2017 You did of course drain the oil, totally dismantle and clean the axle casing and purge all hydro-carbons before welding, didn't you ..... you didn't RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - Roadracer_Al - 05-11-2017 (04-27-2017, 10:38 PM)Pete O Wrote: Upending and finding the wet spot.
