RE: Latest UPS Delivery - Roadracer_Al - 08-12-2015

I bought a lightly-used 5/8" Albrecht from a friend, and have thoroughly enjoyed it. Lovely inventions. Did learn the hard way not to bottom drill bits in the chuck when installing them. It doesn't tighten properly.

Boy, did I get lucky when I ordered those two items. I paid $71 for the chuck and $57 for the arbor from Amazon. The exact same items from the same sellers are now going for $186 for the chuck and $98 for the arbor. This is a first for me. I usually end up paying a premium for tools. Maybe some of Ken's luck is rubbing off on me. Big Grin

Nice chuck Ed. I thought about going with the 5/8" capacity but settled on the 1/2" instead. I still have my large Jacobs 18N keyed chuck if I need to go larger.

Mike,

My intention was to get a 1/2" chuck but the 5/8" was substantially cheaper so I decided to get it to save a chunk of cash. It does not close down to zero so no small bits in that chuck. I have a nice 1/2" Llambrich key type ball bearing chuck that I can use for the small bits so no big deal. I've wanted a keyless chuck for quite a while now.

Made a score on sand paper. Was in at the lumber yard a while ago looking on the clearance table, the usual junk, Rick says do you need sand paper. Pulled out a cardboard box full. I asks how much, he says make an offer, I says $40. He says have to check with the boss. Stopped in today he says still want that sand paper, I says sure, gave him the $40.
Figure there might be 1000 sheets, half wet/dry from 150 - 600 grit and half regular paper for the cabinet shop 60 - 320 grit and some other stuff.

Major score!

I thought I had a good score when I found a couple of 100-sheet industrial packs at a going-out-of-business sale for $30.

I found this , well an antiquarian book dealer found it for me . He knows I like local history , this is an old  pint that shows the faulty beam casting that caused the New Hartley Pit disaster of 1862 ,,,,,,,,,,, The site is a few  minutes walk from my house .

It need a bit restoration work before I whack it on the wall .

After the disaster in England legislation was passed that all new pits should have two shafts .

Just won this (rather unexpectedly), as I know how much they usually fetch.

[attachment=11640]

I put in a max bid of $130 (US$95) and ended up getting it for $113.61 (US$83.15) plus postage from Sydney ($19.15).

I don't have a suitable stand but I have seen this one on eBay and postage from the US seems very reasonable.

I know I could always sell it and make a profit if I don't use it  Big Grin

Nice score Darren.

They are around $600 new over here, probably double that where you are. Yikes

Thanks Tom - that is one reason that I jumped at the it. I honestly didn't expect to win it. I figured that it would be another eBay item that people went crazy for in the last hour. In the end, only one other person bid on it - and I beat him Big Grin

Perhaps his description [Mitutoyo Absolute 543 Series Digital Micrometer ID-F125] excluded it from searches by people who were actually looking for a digimatic indicator.

I've ordered the check stand that I linked to above. I'm really starting to like the International Global Shipping program that eBay have. For US$22 that is shipped from the US to me.
