Been into this area on the snowmobile but never in the summer. Some pretty wild hills. The water in the foreground is Wabun Lake, crystal clear spring fed, great place for diving and bass fishing, in the distance is the Madawaska river. This is probably 10 miles from the house. RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - JScott - 08-08-2016 That is a beautiful place. Reminds me of northern Idaho. What the hell are you doing riding around on 4wheelers playing when you should be working on your firewood processor! If you are not careful Greg I will have you kidnapped and brought to Germany to help me build mine. RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - f350ca - 08-18-2016 I felt the phase of the moon was right and the planets were aligned so I took another break from the processor and repaired an outboard leg for someone. The celestial patterns were good and my welds came out nice, at least for me, no stacks of dimes but money is over rated anyway. A little fairing with a 40 grit flap wheel to taper the section then buff with a 120 grit and it started taking shape. The bottom side needed a recess cut for the trim tab. Used a router bit and router to rough it out then sanding disk to smooth it. He didn't say what the casting was worth but the guy at the repair shop told him he'd have a hard time finding someone to fix it. If I'd known that I'd have charged more. RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - Dr Stan - 08-18-2016 Very nice repair. TIG or MIG with aluminum wire? RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - Highpower - 08-19-2016 Not enough spatter and soot for MIG.... RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - f350ca - 08-19-2016 Tig Stan, a Miller 160 amp machine, fine for small stuff like this but doesn't have the umpf for heavy work, throughs the 50 amp line breaker if I try for 160 amp. Thanks Greg, I have all the parts & pieces with the exception of a foot pedal to put together a TIG machine, just haven't had the time. When I bought my Miller 180 I also bought the Torchmate which I used in the construction of my aluminum car hauler. Too many projects and not enough time even though I just retired. Got to get crackin'. RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - Roadracer_Al - 08-20-2016 Stan, have a look on This Old Tony's YouTube channel. He builds a DIY TIG foot pedal. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nzKuQQKcclM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-P6w-tj8_Tk |
