RE: 32x40 H Gas Engine - Brian - 05-10-2014 This stage is to make the front plate of the crank case, this will allow me to assemble the barrel and liner and use it as a jig so I can bore the liner to size. So bore the front plate to the OD of the liner. [attachment=8291] [attachment=8292] Next operation will be to fit the studs to clamp the barrel to the front plate, Slowly slowly Brian. RE: 32x40 H Gas Engine - Brian - 05-11-2014 The front plate was marked out using the odd jaw calipers, center punched and the marks enlarged with the Archimedes drill. [attachment=8303] The holes drilled tapping size, then transferred to the barrel for tapping and then the plate holes enlarged to clearance size. [attachment=8304] Brian. RE: 32x40 H Gas Engine - f350ca - 05-11-2014 Looking real good Brian. Your flying along with this build. RE: 32x40 H Gas Engine - EdK - 05-11-2014 I enjoy watching your progress. Ed RE: 32x40 H Gas Engine - stevec - 05-11-2014 The uninformed (me) would like to be informed about " the Archimedes drill" . it looks like it may be like a "YANKEE PUSH PULL Drill " Am I even close ? RE: 32x40 H Gas Engine - Brian - 05-11-2014 Hi Steve Archimedes invented his drill about the time when the Indians ruled America. It's very useful for enlarging center marks, it even allows you to correct marks that are off by angling the drill. Yes it's a push pull drill some have a spring return. It's one of my favorite tools. Brian RE: 32x40 H Gas Engine - Brian - 05-20-2014 The next stage was to fit the head blank in the same manner that the front plate was fitted, this now gives me a full set of bolt holes so I can assemble the barrel and liner with it's gasket and "o" ring, (but without the head) and mount it on the mill to final finish the liner bore. Just waiting for the "o" ring. [attachment=8350] Brian. RE: 32x40 H Gas Engine - Brian - 05-24-2014 The next job was to cut the 45° space for the "O"ring. [attachment=8362] Then the assembled barrel and liner was set up in the mill To finish the bore. It took a lot of passes to get the taper out of the bore caused by the tool springing. I am so glad I modded the X to power feed. [attachment=8363] [attachment=8364] The piston was then turned to size and lapped to fit. [attachment=8365] [attachment=8366] Rings to get, and grooves to cut, then it can come off the mandrel to do the inside. Brian. RE: 32x40 H Gas Engine - DaveH - 05-24-2014 Excellent job Brian, looking good DaveH RE: 32x40 H Gas Engine - TomG - 05-24-2014 It's coming along well Brian. I'll bet that cast iron is fun to machine.
