I'd love to see that slotter in operation (almost as much as I'd like to see my shaper back in operation).

And therein lies the problem...
The slotter head is fully functional unfortunately there is a gear rack missing that meshes it with the main unit...
Maybe one day it will be working again!
I am on the hunt for an original and if i cannot find one i may get one made up.
The other issue is the lack of any information on these machines.
The manuals are pretty much useless for anything other than casual reading material, no maintenance or exploded parts diagrams.

Not sure if i feel up to taking it apart again and measuring up and taking impressions of the gear to make the rack cutter.
Maybe one day...
Speaking of shapers i found a government surplus auction last night for 2 brand new, never been used, still in the crate Atlas 7B shapers.
At that time the bid was $2500 each...

FOUND ANOTHER SHAPER!!! On a country road about 6 miles from my house. It is sitting on a guys front porch with flowers planted around it. Road trip tomorrow after work (the wife was with me tonight) LOL...Bob

I have 3 shapers so I thought I would join in.
The first one I bought many years ago and it is a Douglas 10 1/2 inch stroke shaper.
It is in perfect condition wear wise and at the moment it is pulled down getting full going over, under drive and some other mods done.

The next one I got was a Alba 24 inch shaper. It has a bit of wear from the operators not oiling the ram enough.
This is a photo from when I bought it.

And this is the vise I picked up for it. It has 330mm jaws on it.

And this is the latest one I picked up about a month ago which is another Douglas shaper. I have plans to pull it down and bolt the main casting and the ram onto the Alba for a vertical slotter since vertical slotters are so hard to come by. The vise can then go on the other Douglas because it never came with one.

in my shop. Seems lately there is a shaper explosion prices going way
up even if one can find one. Tooling is cheap or free, guys use anything
from twist drills, files, allen wrenchs whatever. Im lucky to have found
this 7B although I wish it was something like a 24". sp
