RE: How To Counter Bore? - Tony Wells - 06-06-2013 I guess I missed most of the fun, but I'd do it in the mill, with a 1.000" end mill. Yes, I know they're not perfectly "flat", but he did say "roughly" .050 deep. Yes, I know they're not perfectly "flat", but he did say "roughly" .050 deep. Plunge cutting with an end mill scares the hell out of me. I know, I know, wuss! In actuality it needs to be 1.005" in diameter but I just thew out the 1" diameter because when boring the counter bore it can be sized to what's needed. By "roughly" I meant the depth could be roughly to the desired dimension but I do want it to be a fairly consistent depth throughout the full dimension. I'm trying to get lighting figured out for recording the boring process. All I have is a cheap LED video light and I'm having to do some trial and error to find the right place to put the light and get reasonable coverage with it. Ed RE: How To Counter Bore? - Tony Wells - 06-06-2013 Well, end mills are usually flat ended within a couple, anyway. But to get 1.050, you do need to bore it. Unless that is, you can interpolate with your CNC mill, or have a rotary table handy. By far the lathe is the most straightforward and predictable method. RE: How To Counter Bore? - EdK - 06-06-2013 Got'r done! Crappy video included. I know, the RPMs are way too low and the video is boring (pun intended). Ed [attachment=5442] RE: How To Counter Bore? - Mayhem - 06-07-2013 The end result is all that matters Ed - well done. So - what is it for? I'll start a thread on it once I feel I have enough to make it mildly interesting to those that are bored. Ed RE: How To Counter Bore? - wrustle - 06-07-2013 Nice job Ed.....keep up the good work! What did you end up using to make the c'bore? RE: How To Counter Bore? - EdK - 06-07-2013 (06-07-2013, 01:53 PM)wrustle Wrote: What did you end up using to make the c'bore? The smallest insert boring bar I have. http://www.maritool.com/Indexable-Tooling-Boring-Bars-Steel-Boring-Bars/c50_142_109/p379/SOLID-STEEL-BORING-BAR-.3125-shank/product_info.html I didn't think there would be enough clearance but there was and it worked just fine. The diameter is right on and the depth is within .003" so good enough for Ed. Ed RE: How To Counter Bore? - krv3000 - 06-07-2013 well dun RE: How To Counter Bore? - DaveH - 06-09-2013 Ed, Perfect, the RPM are not too slow, rarely are rpm too slow nearly always too fast. That is one great job and there is nothing wrong with the video either. (It's not crappy) DaveH |
