RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - TomG - 12-23-2015 (12-21-2015, 08:24 PM)f350ca Wrote: Very nice Greg. I'm curious as to how long it took you to make this gorgeous box with all the intricate joinery? Tom RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - f350ca - 12-23-2015 Too long Tom, didn't bother to track the hours but I know I could have built a full sized dresser quicker. RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - dallen - 12-23-2015 did some woodwork today for my 100 year old shotgun [attachment=12462] RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - Highpower - 12-24-2015 Finished up the machining on the ratchet ring I've put off for too long. I got the keyway broached today and did a quick check for size. Got to use the 'new to me' adjustable parallel(s) I found on ebay. Nice. [attachment=12467] The broach did a nice job and the slot came out perfect, 0.376" for a 3/8" key. [attachment=12468] I also got to use my 'new to me' Starrett 54 vice hold downs for stepping the original 10mm key to fit my new ratchet ring. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with how well the hold downs worked. I was pretty impressed really. They latched on to the base of the key and held it down tight to the 1-2-3 block it was sitting on. The key never budged. [attachment=12469] Test fit, and it went all the way on the pinion this time! [attachment=12470] Only thing left now is the heat treating but that will wait until next week sometime. Right now I smell Christmas Eve dinner - so...... RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - dallen - 12-24-2015 worked on this little project which is a replacement forearm for an old breakover shotgun just about finished with it needs some more finish to look good [attachment=12471] RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - Highpower - 12-25-2015 David, are these old beauties items you have had for some time or are you just 'finding' them at random? Either way you sure know how to pretty them up. I wish I had the talent/patience for doing wood work like that. Damascus barrel, or no? RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - dallen - 12-25-2015 it was an old shotgun that a guy gave me, they didn't know what to do with it as it was in pretty poor shape. I drop in by the shop they own an show them what I work on from time to time and had been in there with my 50/90 showing it to Tony's Dad, when he hauled this old gal out and said I could have it for parts. Someone had told them not to shoot it, and in the condition it was in I wouldn't of shot it. But with a little work and some sandpaper it cleaned up pretty good. Nice thing is that it's got a 2.750 chamber and not the old BP 2.5 chamber the barrel is steel and not Damascus which works out if I want to use it for Turkey shoots cause of the long 30 inch barrel and really tight Full Choke should bring home a frozen bird or two. The forearm hardest part was finding a 1.062 drill bit to drill the hole with, then figuring out how to drill thru a 7 inch block with a S&D bit which is a might short for a hole that deep. you mentioned patience, I don't have any of it either, just would rather do this then watch the tube, which I do way too much of RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - Kennyv - 12-26-2015 Been making parts for the boss lately. Nothing special bunch of bushings and spacers ec... Here's a lil Job I finished on Thurs before Christmas vacation.. . He s building a Bobber so I came up with an idea to make this medallion as a memorial for his recent loss of his son..He liked the idea so I went with it. It is going to be mounted by way of socket head caps, button heads or silver soldered to the side plate on the oil tank. Its most likely going to be finished with a brushed copper to match the theme of the Bike. I made holding fixture and cut out diamond and engraved on my little Taig CNC mill . Convenient machine for this kind of stuff. Prob going to sell it when I leave the Co. RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - EdK - 12-26-2015 That ought to get you some browny points Kenny. I already have those .have allot of respect from the owner ... Sure brownie points but no biscuit haven't had a review in 7 years but that's okay I am leaving with honors and after 15 years of loyal service my conscience will be clear when I have to give my to 2-3 week notice. Its going to be a hard day but I believe that turn out is not going to be a hardship like I thought. |
