The strap is only holding onto the casting? Or is there something inside it goes around?

That's my gut feeling too. I'll have a tether tied higher up just to stabilize it to keep it from tipping over since it's rather top heavy.

I agree with Darren and think you would be OK Ed. But you could also cut a piece of 4x4 to stick into the motor opening between your pallet and the bottom of the casting (now UP) to spread some of the load to the solid bottom of the casting. Cheap insurance and it might make you feel a little better about it.

Just the casting makes me nervous. Casting and sled I'd be more comfortable. Something to spread it out.

That's a picture of the head sitting on the mill table. The head is fully supported on the bottom side by the sled.

Yes, I got that part Ed. It's supported on the bottom where the thin sections are between the openings for the motor and spindle pulleys. I was just talking about putting a block of wood INSIDE the motor opening and adding some support to filled in area of the red box of this beautiful artists rendition.

I wrote pallet where you called it a sled. Same difference.
But it would probably take you an hour to undo all of your bondage work anyway, so you might as well go for it as-is.

Yup, I really didn't want to have to redo the bondage accoutrements. I'm lazy and I may pay for that disgression. But I'm not done bondagizing it yet.
