RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - Mayhem - 10-28-2015

I'm trying to make use of vertical space in my shop and now that I know how the hoist fits, I'm going to move my tool boxes to the wall in front of the hoist.  Above that, I am going to put two shelves (300mm deep), and above those I will have rack space.

[attachment=12020]

Eventually, I plan to push that whole back wall out a further 3m, so I screwed the vertical sections in place, rather than weld them.  Here the two rear horizontal sections are welded in place, ready for the projections, to give the depth.  I like using cope joins when welding angle and today I decided to cut these on the mill.  Whilst it did take a little longer, there was much less mess than using a cutting disc in the 4" angle grinder.  The vise stop saved a hell of a lot of time, once the first one was set up. ø1.375 six flute HSS cutter running at 200 rpm taking a full 3mm (.060") cut.

I've got a heap of industrial shelving that was given to me but the problem is that the shelves are 600mm deep and for a lot of what I want to put on shelves, this is wasted space. 300mm will be ample for those boxes of screws, o rings, roll pins etc that you only need once in a while.

As a matter of fact Dave, there IS close parking. Actually you can park it AT Boeing and get the oil changed while you are here. They have facilities at the airport and the headquarters is basically right across the road. Big Grin

OK, this wasn't exactly "today's" project, but it's recently been finished, and did well at the show it was built for.

Here's a photo gallery with captions. And a couple videos. Play'm loud, at work. You'll make lots of new friends. :)

Yep, the shocks are the finest available at no cost from a friends surplus pile. :)

Free Willie - the university that I previously worked for did a complete refit of its pharmacology labs. I got that 250L one, as well as 100L and 50L ones as well. The smaller ones I gave to a couple of friends. I picked up at least two truck loads of things they were throwing out, including a dishwasher, lab oven, cupboards, filing cabinets, vacuum pump, retort stands, boss heads, clamps, lab chairs. It is amazing the amount of waste. The 250L flammable liquid cabinet is around $2500 to buy new...

Thought you might get a kick out of a birds eye view of the plasma. Charlie mounted his GoPro on the gantry.
