RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - dallen - 08-17-2015 been playing in the backyard again. had to see if the changes I been doing to the burner were worth the effort. couple parts poured short but over all a successful pour considering that it was more to just check out the burner then to actually make parts this is about 15 pounds of cast iron that we melted today [attachment=11636] business end of the burner. [attachment=11637] RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - Charles Spencer - 08-19-2015 I installed a belt drive conversion on my mini mill today. I was going to wait on it a bit but I changed my mind... RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - TomG - 08-20-2015 I gather by the pic that you were forced into doing it. Tom RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - dallen - 08-20-2015 I've probably got one of those, only its not broken. Also have a couple sets of the internal plastic gears. now I done went and got myself to thick about how a guy could cast them in bronze?? may be long at a new winter project if I ever get the .50 done. I heard a pop that sounded like an M16 firing and there she was - gone. RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - PixMan - 08-21-2015 I don't get into my shop much lately, too busy helping my son and his fiancé fixing up the house that it lives in. I did get a few minutes to touch up the cast iron wheel balancing stand I had recently bought for $20. In order to fit it under the wheel on my surface grinder, I had to dress about 10mm (.400") off the O.D. of a "sacrificial" wheel that was already well under it's original 7" diameter. The surprise was that the tips of the rails needed only .002" to clean up. I'll need to order a few thumbscrews and find or make a balancing arbor and it's "good to go." I'm hoping to find a miscategorized arbor on eBay for cheap. The ones I find range in price from $250 to over $500, and this thing isn't worth that to me. I think I may throw it onto the milling machine, mill flats at each end and drop roll pins in to guarantee the arbor and wheel don't roll past those "thumb cuts" meant to catch it. RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - Hawkeye - 08-21-2015 For the first time since September, I made some chips today. I have some of my machines reconditioned and back into the shop. When I was freeing up and cleaning the floor drill press, the table crank broke (plastic). I started turning the hub for a steel replacement today on the Storebro lathe. Man, does it feel good! I might post a picture or two when I get it finished. I'll post the shop rebuild when I'm finally done. I moved back into my house on June 15, nine months after the fire. RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - PixMan - 08-22-2015 That's really good news Mike! It's been a long road for you, fighting with insurance and contractors to get back into your home and having (some of) your stuff back. We're all glad for you. RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - Mayhem - 08-22-2015 Glad to hear that Mike. I look forward to seeing the pics. |
