I don't know about the taste but the stuff cut like crap

RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - dallen - 07-29-2015

got back to work on the nozzle for my furnace that I've been messing around with the last couple of days, after finding the one part that was messed up and making a new part for it, I decided to see if I could make the orfice that goes in the end of it.

its not very pretty but trying to cut 6 slots in the end of a 1/4" diameter rod isn't one of the things that I do everyday, sorry no pics of the setup. It took longer to get it set up then it did to cut the 6 tiny slots.

hole in the end of it was drilled with a #57 carbide drill.

use a match most of the time, sometimes a butane lighter, other times two sticks rubbed together.

played with the hot stuff for a little while this afternoon, needed an ingot mold for some lead alloy that I need to mix up.

Some of you may remember following the "lathe lever quiz" I started a fortnight ago, Ive been trying to get my lathe & bridgeport working. Im very new to it all, but after following the usual suspects on youtube channels for over a year its something Ive decided to try and get into. John S, a new member on here but a friend from another forum, kindly came over the other night and spent a few hours with me and explained a lot.  He pointed me in the direction of some of the things I needed to buy, and kindly offered me the opportunity to visit him where he would help me do a few of the jobs Im struggling with to get the machines working.
This week Ive bought all the bits I needed, packed it all in the car, and last night after work, following an invite, I decided to head over. and thats where the trouble started!. I was sat still minding my own business in que of traffic before a roundabout. when BOOM

The VW behind me, was clearly on a mobile phone or playing with his stereo, and "rear ended me" so hard, I broke my glasses!

Dont worry, Im ok.... but the accident not only wrote my car off, broke my glasses, put a stop on my trip to johns, but it also... weirdly snapped the plastic handle on my BRAND NEW TOOLPOST i had in the boot!!!

So, although I havent yet managed to get over to John's (as I wont have a replacment car until Monday) todays project... was to fit the toolpost... and my first job... a HANDLE!!

Well that sure sucks. I'm glad you're not hurt though.

claim it on your insurance and get a new one.

gotta watch them real pointy knurls they will take the hide right off of your knuckles.

looks like the compound slide has been snapped into and then welded back together, or are my old eyes playing tricks on me again?
