Only thing I have done in months in my shop was built a spoke wrench for a friend of mine. He races bicycles and one of his fancy road tires had an odd size spoke nut.

yes we did it yesterday afternoon, its dirt simple to do it you have access to the good bone charcoal and a kiln.

thanks, I like cutting threads, I think that was some free cutting round bar from the local votech, anyway it was free so I used it.
did the nut first and threaded it with a tap them used the nut to gauge the threads on the die body with. nice snug fitting smooth running thread

Got a bit more done on my drawbar wrench/hammer. The lead flowed behind the nut in the centre of the brass fitting I used, which will lock it in nicely. I should have taken a pic of the lead face before giving it a few test hits! I'm going to steal Ed's idea of some wood on the handle, as for me this is as much about getting some milling under my belt as it is about making the tool. I'm going to use some Eucalyptus marginata (same wood as the shelves on my stock rack).

Looks good Darren.
Mine's on hold for now. The piece of cocobolo that I was going to use is too small to hold safely to cut on the table saw so I'm going with a different species which is already close to the thickness I need. I haven't had much time in the shop lately so projects are not getting done as quickly as I'd like them to.

Nice Job on the draw bar hammer Mate .. Im using an ole broken brass hammer I made in HS shop class and a small braker bar wrench with a socket . looks almost exactly same but u have a nice 2-1 tool. didn't do do much today but that's ok . Had some nice shop time on my new mill with my son that has Autism . Got a $400+ band saw today for $75 ..but that's nothing compared to the gift I had with my boy. if ya don't mind like to share ....
Shop time on fathers day with my son. Best gift I I can ask for . The memory will last forever. First I taught my son some principles of hand tools, the care of instruments . Learning to install collets in machine , using a draw bar wrench and spindle wrench. Sizing tooling by fractional numbers. Converting over to decimal equivalents. Care of instruments basic machine, tool safely, set up and calculating RPM. He took his first cut and broke in new machine by feeding .400 thousands 4 turns on the dial to engrave the letter T on the tighten side of spindle tool.
Here is my son Joel Tramming the head, Organizing collects by fractional size, (Using chart ) learning fractions to decimal. Using chart to identify the size on his own. He got it .
Next he is indicating in vice for first mill set up on the machine. He learned to get the vice parallel within two thousandths of an inch .002 than he learned to tap in high side half total distance and get it zeroed. In . After that he torqued the bolts He said spot on In a British accent . I got a vintage indicator of e bay that is made in England and its named Spot on . What a day . The one an only gift that I received but it was Priceless . Next we set up for next project drilling and tapping but he lost interest so I fig id call it a wrap save for next time .

Shop time with your son is the best. I seem to be cherishing those times more and more as time goes on.

And I can tell you as a son of a toolmaker that few (if any) things in my life brought me more happiness and pride than to be able to spend time together in the machine shop that I put together with my dad.
Yesterday was a tough day. I couldn't go near the place.
Glad for you Kenneyv that you got so much good fun in the shop with your son. I'm sure its very gratifying for you, and great therapy for him!
