Also, have you tried selecting the problem gear with the other levers in different positions? I think that if all of these suggestions don't help, the problem is likely something other than just the gear teeth not lining up. Yes, we have the Manual, Doc. However, we are definitely not technically experienced and would really be afraid to tackle such a huge project. This will be daunting for us tyros. Please understand. We'd rather let the Supplier's do their thing here. Your Internal/External Threading methods would work beautifully as U Guys dis-engage the Half-Nut and re-engage from the Thread Dial on the subsequent passes. Working towards the Tailstock is ideal indeed with the Groove and starting from Zero on the Indicator. Thanks for the input and for sharing. Much appreciated LORD BLESS aRM RE: Gear lever not engaging - aRM - 12-04-2016 Hi Guys Well, seeing that the Lathe is only going to be repaired on Monday, we could not wait much longer to finish our project These were the Machinist's Jacks that we intended for a long while, and which we missed badly when working on the Wheel Balancing Stand We continued with the Threading, albeit on the wrong Shift Lever Number, and then simply used our 22 mm 2" Die in the Stock we recently acquired from the Pawn Shop. Engaged the Feed at low speed and the Lathe did the balance. And Bob's Your Uncle, worked like a charm The pic shows these completed However, Monday is "D" day and we hope the bill is reasonable, LORD Willing Will keep U Guys posted aRM [attachment=13950] RE: Gear lever not engaging - Pete O - 12-04-2016 Being able to turn out such a nice set of machinist jacks, I would have said you have the aptitude to tackle some minor dismantling of the lathe to investigate the gear problem. Understand though if the machine is relatively new and especially if under warranty. Hope they get it sorted for you without too much grief.
