RE: Fixing an old mini milling machine - kkoch986 - 04-14-2015 @dallen, i will definitely try that. I noticed though on the draw bar i have it has a few flat spots, not sure if they are critical or not. Ill take a closer look at how it all fits together and see what i can come up with. thanks! EDIT: From just looking at it, looks like as long as the nut on the top is tight and the arbor is threaded it should work. Ill run up to the store later and see what i can find. RE: Fixing an old mini milling machine - EdK - 04-14-2015 LittleMachineShop.com should have the draw bar you need. You just need to find out if it's a metric thread or imperial thread. http://www.littlemachineshop.com/products/product_view.php?ProductID=1414&category= http://www.littlemachineshop.com/products/product_view.php?ProductID=1637&category= Ed RE: Fixing an old mini milling machine - kkoch986 - 04-14-2015 @Ed, thanks thats perfect! To be honest i thought more about finding the right arbor because i didnt know changing the draw bar was an option so all this info is super helpful. RE: Fixing an old mini milling machine - kkoch986 - 04-15-2015 Hey everyone, thanks for all the help, @dallens suggestion worked pretty well, picked up a 3/8" x 4" hex bolt and its working pretty well. Probably going to pick up one of the actual draw bars from Eds post but this will get me started at least! Hopefully my next post here will be showing off whatever cool stuff i manage to accomplish.. Thanks again, - Ken RE: Fixing an old mini milling machine - Dr Stan - 04-15-2015 My Fray milling machine has a MT spindle so I purchased a collet holder similar to this one: http://www.shars.com/products/toolholding-workholding/tool-holders/9-piece-er-type-mt2-collets-and-chuck-set Ignore the shank as I think they used the wrong product picture. RE: Fixing an old mini milling machine - Charles Spencer - 06-01-2015 I don't know if I missed it, but I didn't see anybody mention that what you have is a Sieg X2 mini mill. These are sold by several different companies. Besides the shank taper (most others have R8) they are essentially the same machine. See: http://www.littlemachineshop.com/products/product_view.php?ProductID=4962&category= http://www.harborfreight.com/two-speed-variable-bench-mill-drill-machine-44991.html http://www.grizzly.com/products/Mini-Milling-Machine/G8689 Little Machine Shop has accessories for this machine. Grizzly sells parts, including an R8 taper spindle for $32.25. This would enable you to use R8 tooling, which is widely available. My South Bend lathe has an MT3 head stock spindle. In order to use MT2 tooling I bought one of these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/MT3-to-MT2-Morse-Taper-Adapter-Morse-Center-Sleeve-3MT-to-2MT-in-Prime-Quality-/231174784106?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item35d317446a I believe that the thread on the drawbar is 3/8"-16. This will also fit both R8 and MT2 collets: http://www.ebay.com/itm/7-PC-2-MORSE-TAPER-COLLETS-SET-1-8-1-2-2MT-MT2-3-16-1-4-3-8-ROUND-CHUCK-/131420440089?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1e9944c619 http://www.ebay.com/itm/SHARS-13-Piece-Precision-R8-Collet-Set-NEW-/330719644028?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4d006d497c There is plenty of information available on this machine, including quite a few youtube videos. Search using "X2 mini mill", "Harbor Freight mini mill", etc. Hope this helps. |
