RE: Big Tools Small Lathe - NormanV - 08-13-2014 It's interesting that you were made to write with your other hand, my mother who would have been 99 this year told me that she was never made to use her right hand at her Primary School in London all those years ago. Nor was I. RE: Big Tools Small Lathe - awemawson - 08-13-2014 We also had to have a 'total immersion' (ie head fully under the water) bath in a large plunge bath every morning summer or winter, and it was filled the night before to make sure it was cold I bet she didn't have to do that either The other mild torture was we had to have two windows open in the dormitory at all times - the only windows were on opposite sides of the room and I've seen snow blow in and out again All good character forming stuff RE: Big Tools Small Lathe - doubleboost - 08-13-2014 (08-13-2014, 12:15 PM)NormanV Wrote: It's interesting that you were made to write with your other hand, my mother who would have been 99 this year told me that she was never made to use her right hand at her Primary School in London all those years ago. I was never "made" to but I was always reminded that I was using the "wrong " hand Same with a fork or a spoon John RE: Big Tools Small Lathe - Mayhem - 08-13-2014 This is quite timely, as I hear on the radio yesterday that it was international left hander's day. So you have gone from being punished to being celebrated! RE: Big Tools Small Lathe - aametalmaster - 08-13-2014 I was left handed when i was young. My grandmother tied my left hand to my waist as there never was any other lefties in the family and i wasn't going to be the first. I was real confused which way to bat or hold a splitting mall because they both felt right. Now i write r handed and do everything else left. My wife gets mad because when i paint a doorway i just use either hand depending on the side. Works great when the jamb is in a corner...Bob RE: Big Tools Small Lathe - stevec - 08-14-2014 (08-13-2014, 01:00 PM)awemawson Wrote: We also had to have a 'total immersion' (ie head fully under the water) bath in a large plunge bath every morning summer or winter, and it was filled the night before to make sure it was cold I bet she didn't have to do that eitherAnd I remember having to walk 6 miles to school and 8 miles home uphill both ways. RE: Big Tools Small Lathe - awemawson - 08-14-2014 "And I remember having to walk 6 miles to school and 8 miles home uphill both ways" Did some b*****r move the school 2 miles while you were there and tilt the road ? RE: Big Tools Small Lathe - doubleboost - 08-14-2014 Hi Lads Managed to finish the back plate with my "left hand" All the bolts screw in Parted off to length It looks the part No run out at all (watch the video) John RE: Big Tools Small Lathe - chucketn - 08-14-2014 My Dad could write with either hand, only because he broke his right arm badly in high school and had to use his left to graduate on time, while the break healed. I had a first grade teacher that would smack my knuckles with a stout wood ruler if I picked up a writing instrument with my left hand. My Dad found out and came to school with me. He told the teacher to make sure her insurancee was paid current because if she ever hit me again, she'd wake up in the hospital. Have written lefty ever since. I eat left handed, but throw a ball and shoot right handed. Chuck RE: Big Tools Small Lathe - DaveH - 08-15-2014 I can do anything with my left hand as I can with my right hand. Although when I use my left hand it turns out crap DaveH |
